Anyone got a clue when the Kenwood KA7100 Integ. amp was mfrd? Just hauled one home from a CL buy. Cleaned up nice. What to use to get the vol knob off? Sounded good at sellers.

That sounds right.
We have one that I found at the dump. My son uses it in his room (now, that means when he is home from college). It's not a bad amp at all.
As I recall, that huge volume knob doesn't have a set screw. I think it just pulls off. I can double-check if you like.

yeah, there's 2 holes in the knob but I tried small metric allens without success. I read the earlier posts about the 7100 praises. Anybody done a recap to one yet? Looks like theres plenty in there to change. Guess I should get the mnls. Any recommendations for cap make and source?

I thought this guy did a pretty thorough job on his 8100: audio restoration My KA-8150 has only one hole on the volume knob. As was posted, a 1.5 mm allen is the tool. Perhaps a previous owner drilled it out and inserted a roll pin? WAG, on my part.
I don't think you'd go wrong using Panasonic FC, Elna Cerafine, or even Blackgates in the signal path. I believe EW uses polyester caps on his rebuilds of the Supreme series. If you have values that coincide with polys, that might be the way to go.
These Kenwood integateds are really nice amps, IMO. They're under-rated as far as I can tell and are durable, as well. Good luck with the 7100.

hpsenicka is right - the set screws are 1.5 mm allen: there are two on the 7100. If they are stubborn I pour a drop of Tri-Flow lubricant (available at your local bike shop) into each set screw hole and let it sit for a day.
Even with the set screws removed, you may have to nudge the knob a bit - turn to lowest volume and gently try to force the knob counter-clockwise a little more.

It is an Allen. I couldn't find the correct size, either. I only was able to see it after I got it off. Unlike the other knobs that have plastic cores, it is solid solid machined aluminum. Threading a set screw into plastic wouldn't make sense, that threw me off for a while.

I see that my mm allens only go down to 2 so gess need to get a 1.5. thanks for the input guys. I got the offset/bias adj procdrs from the other thread on 7100 so am going to meas and set if need be today, and see what peak output looks like on a scope.

1.5mm did the trik. I got the dc offset ok to 0mv+/-2mv but the bias is another thing. where do you clip the mv leads to meas? I found the "CP") posts, 2 for each ch. But tweeking them with a probe on the one nearest the Vr doesn't do anything. HELP!!

I do not think the above statement is true because I have the SM opened at the schematic and the preamp section IS amplified...
As for the manufacturing date, my SM says: 1978-12

Yeah, I can actually see the actives down on the pre amp bd, so it aint passive.
