Did the experimenting.. and the verdict is....
The way I have things set up now is by far the best...
I too had thought when I was setting them up, they would sound best sitting on the subs upside down... but they don't... I lost a lot of the highs.. the only way I can explain that to myself is.. the wave from the sub, and the wave from the 12" drivers are covering up the highs, or canceling them out.. I flipped them both, and couldn't believe how different the sound was.. so.. I flipped one back normal, and left one side upside down.. and for sure you could hear a big difference between the two stacks..
SO.. then I decided to remove the crossover, and just run them full range.. and nope.. or my style either.. just not near enough bass for my liking... Don't get me wrong.. they sounded really good.. but just very in your face highs, and the mids were really strong too.. They did shake the house, but not like I am used too I guess.. Just no ass end.. or at least not the ass end I've been used to...
SO.. put the Peavys back in the mix, and the wife concured.. Gotta get a new amp for the subs and leave them in.. Believe me.. she would much rather sell some stuff off for a little cash rather than spend another chunk of change on another amp.. but she doesn't want to give up the sound..
On the last observation.... they Kenwoods look a LOT better right side up.. the stack just didn't look near as good with the horn and ports in the middle of everything... and once again, ,the wife agreed completely... It's so cool.. once I got these speakers, she has taken more of an interest in how things sound than she had before.. so life IS grand  :thmbsp:
