more likely its a cone tweeter behind a screen mesh shaped to look like a ribbon. ive seen that alot.

They are LS-V720-B . These do have the linaeum tweeters in them. I wonder if the rest of the driver are as good ?

with the linaeum in there they just might be good speakers. Are you able to access them?

I just bought a pair of Kenwood LS-V720-B via CL for $70
I just bought a pair via CL for $70
( vs $180 on the auction website + ~80 ship ).
They are being tested, as I just got them last nite.
They certainly are well made, with butyl surrounds on both woofers.
The unipolar Linaeum tweeter is excellent. None of the back reflection from the Optimus LX-5 omnidirectional,, that adds rear facing emitter interference.
The speakers apparently are from a medium? grade audiophile home theater setup. Circa 1999-2001 vintage per an old Kenwood product page archived at wayback....
My motivation in purchasing was to avoid the poor bass / mid response in the Optimus LX5's ( and having to modify the LX5 but still gain only mediocre mid and low end ) yet find a complete decent speaker off the shelf with the inexpensive Linaeum ribbon tweeters with their good high end performance.
Presently I observe the speakers are less efficient than the JBL D38s I have, but have a better top end from the Linaeum Ribbon tweeters. I suspect the Butyl surrounds have aged slightly ( slightly stiffer than desired ), and based on reading on AK I will try either DOT4 or Armourall in the coming weeks.
Whoever said this speaker was Crapola, has not looked a little deeper. Before I decided to buy, I was near purchasing 4 (2pr) of KLH Model 6's in decent shape for $100 ( a decent deal on local CL ), but after I read that even when recapped, the rolloff at ~15khz was pretty severe, it was clear that a medium cost Lineaum tweeter based speaker would trivially have a superior high end response, and even with these Kenwood LS-V720-B, the low end response is better than the KLH 6's
I am driving these with a Kenwood KR6600 bought for $50 also off CL, and the pair are pretty decent.
The Kenwood KR6600 is the bargain vintage Marantz in near every way. I have a 2nd for backup / parts and might get another, each time my budget is ~$50. Has enough power and dynamic headroom for my present needs. Well built etc.
I will remark that the JBL D38 sounds pretty good, except for a fairly common adhesive locking of glue dripping on the mid driver of one of the pair I have. I saw online another pair with the exact ugly reflow glue dripping on both mid drivers, and my thought is to replace the D38 mids with an aftermarket driver to avoid further heat related glue flow locking the mid driver ( else the D38s are very good low cost speakers )
For now I am very happy with the LS-V720-B, it is a very nice intermediate performance speaker, far better than common system package speakers. And yet cost me very little.

An old thread, I know...but I have a pair of these which I also purchased off CL locally. Had no way to test on-site, but upon powering up there is a blown tweeter in one box. Tweeter model is T03-0724-15. I know they weren't available in the states. The guy I bought them from was stationed overseas and bought them there, having shipped them home.
I have been unsuccessful finding the exact replacement but there is a T03-0759-05 on eBay now (http://qurl.org/PZ1) and for the money I was considering giving it a try. It is different in appearance from the front, but what has me most concerned is that the original driver looks (from pictures) to be considerably wider (http://image5.sahibinden.com/photos/12/06/50/big_7212065057p.jpg) than the on on the eBay auction.
Does anyone out there have a parts speaker that they could bastardize for the tweeter? I've seen these speakers fleetingly. Does that linaeum tweeter have the nice beefy look and feel of the early 90's RCA/Optimus series, or does it have a cheap and chintzy feel of the aura style ?
I am trying to find out before I make the run to check it out in further detail. Its cheap enough but needs foam and repairs in general.
