KLH 7101 Bookshelf Speakers OHMS?

Hey all,

I have a pair of these great speakers and I am wondering, since the label on the back makes no mention of OHMS, how else would I find out?

I do NOT own a multi-meter.

Is there a Sound I would generate from the interaction of my receiver and Speaker system if say, the wrong OHM selection was chosen?
 
It's not a sound per se. It's a puff of smoke.

Seriously, though, the whole ohms mismatch thing is really only a concern if you often play your system at "disco" volume. If you do, then you want to be cognizant of the ohms matching. If you mostly play at "normal" listening levels, it shouldn't be a concern.

The fewer the Ohms, the more current flows from your amplifier and that creates heat. Some amps can handle the extra heat and some cant. But like was said above, it depends on how loud you run your system. Play normal levels and you should be fine. Run at very loud levels for a long time and it might damage your amplifier.

Yes, and no. I'm probably going to regret what I said in post #3, because someone will take that to mean that they can put lower impedance speakers on their amp than it was designed for. And you can. Until some drunk "dimes" your volume control at a party.

If an amp is a power supply, the volume control is the voltage output. The speaker is the load. The output transistors don't care about the voltage. (They can't exceed the designed in power rails.) So, if you don't "dial-up" the voltage, you never exceed the designed output current. No problem.

Now ignore everything I said and don't exceed the designed the speaker load. You will always have party's, and your brother-in-law will always be there.
