Klh model twelve

Looking at a really nice stock pair with crossover boxes, cabinets are beautiful. Any thoughts of value these days? More valuable than Fives? Or less since they're so big...?

I'd say that if you have the room go get them. Fives are great, but Twelve's are not often seen in the condition you described, and a tad better than Fives from what I've read. Value wise, I'm not sure. The size may allow you to bargain for a lower price, but I think sound wise they are worth every penny compared to the Five's. I'm guessing at about $200-$300 is what I would pay at best? Good luck and keep us posted.

My pros and cons list is weighted on the con side. Rebuilding complex, 50 year old crossovers will be expensive, 90 pound weight, low WAF, for the slight increase in sound versus Model Fives, which I already have, makes it a no go. I'd probably have $350 in them, a bit over the top for me. They're pretty, though.

Well, I can't agree that Twenty Threes will best my wonderful Fives, but for the small increment in improvement, the Twelves aren't worth the upfront investment, expensive crossover rebuild, and back breaking weight. And yeah, the footprint will cause my wife to glare at me.

Damn those look clean.

Haven't heard the 12's but I'm very familiar with the similarly sized Model 7's.
Own a nice pair of 5's as well.
The box resonance of the 7's is something like 10hz lower than the Model 5's.
Extended bass is the thing.

I would say that you made a wise decision based upon the facts you stated @alteclipsch. If I had no other KLH speakers I would have definitely been interested!

I'm listening to Duane Allman's Antholgy coming through my Model Fives right now. I don't see how the Twelves could possibly sound better, and I still have my money!

All of the past threads about the 12's I've read indicate that they have more bass and the xo box definitely help fine tuning to your ears, but because of their size, most prefer the 5's. Which doesn't mean much when you have a chance to grab a pair for decent price. I loved every pair of KLH models I've heard.

Btw...the notion that Model 12's are in any way comparable in size to K-Horns is nonsense.
They're a third less wide, half as deep, and half as tall.

Key word here being "almost". Khorns perform best when jammed tightly into room corners. The 12's need breathing room so the floor space used is quite comparable.

And people jam Model 5's into corners?
Compared to Model 5's, Model 12's eat something around a foot of extra floor space each.

I keep my Model Fives out a bit from the wall. It seems they have enough oomph in them to stand alone and do their thing without any kind of reinforcement. I'd think the Twelves would be the same.

Yes I got those KLH 12's. They do look nice. A bit of water damage from sitting on a concrete floor. And the finish does not look "crisp". I will probably strip them next spring. And in case you are wondering if they will fit in a 2009 Infinity M35X. YES, they will. And there is still room in the front seat for a McIntosh HT-2. But the CX5000 and MXA5000 have to go in the trunk.
Now, if I had a REALLY big power convertor and some speaker wire I'd be ready for the ultimate road audio road trip.

I'm going through the crossovers now but they may not get played until spring.

There was a nice pair for sale around these parts about ten years ago for $125.I looked into them but never in person before I decided for whatever reason at the time I didn't need them.I probably didn't have room .
