Hi I have a pair of Klipsch KG4’s I bought new in ‘89 I believe. They are finished in Oak Oil. What’s a good asking price for these? They are in excellent, original condition.

$400 + seems to be the ebay sold for price.

I paid $100 for mine after they sat on CL for a few weeks.

Wow, 100. Great price. Thanks. Would have thought a bit more than 400.

I would say $250 in the current market. $200 if you want to move them a little quicker.

There are currently two sets for sale in my area. Black @ $260 and oak @ $300. Both are reported to be in good condition and both have been listed for a week or more. Based on reading AK I would say my local market sells for average to above average pricing. Our prices are not as high as a place like San Fransisco but they are notably higher than Kansas City (see below)

Prices vary widely based on location. Over Christmas I was in the Kansas City area and saw several postings that were many days old that would have sold rather quickly here in Portland. Additionally, the number of listings in the KC area were a fraction of what I see locally. Portland and Kansas City are very similar in population so there are other factors at play beyond number of people.

As prices relate to eBay, on average, I would say locally pieces sell for 65-75% of the average eBay price. You may be able to sell them for more on eBay but then you have to pay commission (~15%), deal with the hassle of shipping, and deal with higher risk of getting scammed. IMO, if you do local pickup only on eBay to avoid shipping, you might as well just list locally and save on the commission fee.

It looks like they sold for around $520/pair when new, if you paid MSRP. Without considering inflation, most mass-market speakers seldom sell for more than what they originally sold for even decades later. Exceptions are for the rare and the revered. For more expensive models, I seldom have to pay one-tenth of original MSRP. Some go for double original MSRP, or more. Speakers in the price range of the KG4 I will generally buy for cheap just to have them and to enjoy experiencing them and comparing them to others. If you enjoy them, keep them. For the price, I'd consider passing them along to a family member who might not otherwise ever experience Hi-Fidelity. :dunno:

I also paid $100 for mine a few years ago now. Know that it would take considerable amount more to sell them. Your local will determine the price. The few pairs of local sales I know of were in the $400 range. One was a pair of Oak painted black by the last owner. New owner stripped them back to Oak. The other pair were in Walnut like mine.

Never thought they shined until connected to tube gear BTW.

I’m keeping them at this point. I’ll find a use for them somewhere. But I am running out of places/spaces for multiple systems! ;)
