KR-9600/PL-41 Combination

I'm just finishing the restoration of a Pioneer PL-41 turntable, and will be hooking it up to my Kenwood KR-9600. The Kenwood has 2 phono inputs, one is 250mv and the other is 500mv? Which one do I use and why?:scratch2:

Decimal off a couple of places...

Phono 1 is a FET input stage, with a rated sensitivity of 2.5mV.
Phono 2 is a differential BJT input stage, with a rated sensitivity of 5.0mV.

Phono 1 will sound louder than Phono 2 for that reason (more gain), but not necessarily 'better' simply because it's louder. Bottom line is to connect to one and then the other and decide for yourself. Personally, I think the FET input stage sounds better, even disregarding the difference in loudness (I'm biased towards FET input phono stages in general).

Back when the 9600 was built, it was common to find MM carts with rather high output voltages, and these may have been better suited to the lower gain Phono 2 stage to match the levels of the rest of your gear. Nowadays, most MM carts tend to have a lot lower output voltages, so most modern MM carts will be happier connected to the FET stage of Phono 1.

Thanks EchoWars! I thought you might lend some help! The PL-41 just played a record again after probably 30 years.
