Lafayette 250a

Thanks again tube

I think the biggest problem I have right now is knowing what the parts are you all are telling me about

You might have to make a visit to the "Tube Spa and Dude Ranch" out here in Gardner. If you've never heard of Gardner, it's about 15 minutes S.W. of Olathe. If nothing else, it's a fun place to look at.:D But seriously, more than one AK'er has done there first overhaul on my modest bench.

You should have the schem now. I didn't realize there was anyone here that had one of these other than me, COOL!

I gotta show a picture of mine in my office with my TEAC A6010, Dual 1257, Eico ST97 and Large Advents. :thmbsp:

Have fun!

I like mine a lot. A friend gave them to me, after his Dad passed away, when I got them home I realised that the foam surrounds were ancient history and refoamed them.

They sound great with that old Lafayette!

I really need to get my ass motivated to rebuild it soon, I really miss listening to it.

I would definately appreciate all the help I can get I got the schematic today from Fran604g

OK with all the Info I got from folks I should

1. replace all caps
2. move them below
3. test and replace all out of spec resistors
4. have tubes tested
5. clean and reassemble
6. crack open beer and enjoy

So is that about it?(I added #6 myself but it seemed to fit:yes:)

If you can find new can capacitors in the values you need then do that otherwise mount the new caps under the chassis. Also test every resistor and replace all that are out of tolerance or close to going out of tolerance.

This is probably a question I should have asked a long time ago but does anybody know the specs on this thing

Ooh! Me want Eico ST97!

The amp is nice too... :D

Dang, gotta get my HFT92/MX99 up and running... should sound just like a ST97...

Regards,
Gordon.

Ok maybe I answered my own question the guy I got it from says he thinks 25per does that sound right

If those are EL84 output tubes, it would be more like 25 total (12 or so per side).

If you are talkin about the 4 tube in front of the transformers the base right next to the sockets says EL86

Sounds about right to me, but I defer to the gurus...:D

I think you're gonna enjoy the trip with this, I know I've enjoyed my reintroduction to tubes more than I ever thought I would. In '76 I replaced the Lafayette with my first SS amp, a Heathkit AR1500A, I never thought I'd ever go back to tubes.

Now I can't imagine living without them! :music:
