Looking for info/opinion on 1964 Klipschhorns

Have been listening for a few weeks now, and am ready for the next task.

I’ve noticed that the left (A) speaker plays “slightly” more pronounced than the right (B) speaker. After switching the speaker wires at the amp from left to right, switching amps, and swapping speakers from left to right (to take the room effects into account), I still have the A speaker playing slightly more pronounced than the B speaker.

I’m a woodworker, so already have the top of the top hats off to treat some water stains. Since I have easy access to the crossovers, tweeters, squeakers, wiring, and can easily swap all of those from left to right - I thought I’d troubleshoot.

Easiest task first - the squawkers are the kind where the spring-loaded wire terminals get pushed in, the wires from the crossovers get inserted, and the terminal is released (pictures below). I repositioned the ends of the wires and it appears things “may” already better. Not sure this is my fix yet, but it does have me wondering:
  1. How does one clean the contact area of these terminals? Tiny wire brush and some contact cleaner?
  2. Is there a better solution than this terminal? Something where I solder the wires on to make a better connection, like on the tweeters?
  3. Is there a better wire to use, if I wanted to replace all the wiring between the crossovers and the drivers? I’m assuming the current wires are original and there is a fair amount of tarnish/corrosion associated with them.
  4. Should I just cut back an inch of the original wire and strip back the insulator?
  5. Anything I’m not considering here?
Thanks for your help.

I would just replace the wire. I used the same Canare speaker cable used to connect from amplifier. It is cheap stuff, the same gauge was 31 cents a foot for quad wire.
Wonder if Atlas has diaphragms for sale. The still make the mid drivers, maybe DaveinTn can get them since he distributes B&C, Celestion, and others.

I have my Dad's 1963 Khorns in my new shop.24x32x13 ceiling. Powered with Scott 299 on the tops and a Scott 99D mono on the bass cabs, Scott 350B tuner, Oppo CDP83, 75" TV in between and ARXB turntable. The Scott really sounds great and gobs enough power. Tame the midrange nasties too. Couldn't be happier. A good EL84/7189/6BQ5 amp is all you need. You may never exceed 10 o'clock on the volume control. The KHorns love 7591 amps too.

Just my 2cents
Just out of curiosity...do you have A networks or Type I? Thanks
