Looking for my first record player. HELP!

I briefly looked at Craigslist in Arkansas and really didn't come up with much. I think that new would probably be the best bet considering it is a gift. Your husband probably isn't going to want to drive all over looking for and fixing up a bunch of vintage gear.

With that being said, the recommendation for the AT LP60 and powered speaker combo on Amazon would be fine. It comes in at your budget and would be plug and play.

If you become more serious down the road and want to explore vintage then this could be a backup for when the vintage stuff breaks down. Don't worry about all the finicky stuff like tracking force adjustments, record wear, etc. Just have some fun looking for and playing vinyl.

Completely incorrect. The Klipsch speakers have both RCA and blue tooth. In addition to USB, Optical and the ability to add a sub woofer as well. The speakers have the built in preamp so that the table can then be upgraded easily. Ground is also on the powered speakers.

^^^That's a nice system @ghamilton suggests right out of the box. That AT-LP120 is a real step up over the LP60. Probably serve you better in the long run.

As you already found out, for a few bucks more, you can add Bluetooth. With Bluetooth speakers, you can stream from your smartphone, computer, etc.

A "wired" connection from turntable to speakers will likely sound a bit better than Bluetooth, so if I were choosing where I wanted Bluetooth, I'd go with speakers over the turntable.
 
I hope the OP isn't expecting to much from such a modest system. I hate to ruining the party but I doubt vinyl records played on most any of the selections looked at would sound as good as an old fashion boom box playing a CD. So she should not expect a very low budget system to sound all that great unless she gets real lucky with some low priced higher level used gear. As for anything shown yet, I wouldn't even think about purchasing any of the ones posted other than the last used system, and only if it was really low priced. Most of them look as bad as the stuff we had long ago when you couldn't afford a good system. Sure we enjoyed it, as it was all their was. But when you can go to any thrift store and buy a DVD player for 5 bucks and throw it on a cheap used AVR with a decent pair of speakers it will make any of the cheap turntables sound pretty sick.

News to me if it's breaking the rules to reference or link to BT. The problem is that you have to be a subscriber to get to BT...

I like that it has a standard 1/2 mount for the cartridge just make sure it is set up correctly if/when you get it. I would not trust the factory to align the cartridge correctly. The only other concern would be the on board preamp that it plays through. With no customer reviews I would see if you can listen to one in the store to make sure there isn't a hiss or hum. Looks like not too bad of a deal

The pictures of that aren't great but it's clearly a Rega RB101/RB110 tonearm, and an Audio Technica AT91 cartridge. Looks like not a bad deal - on the face of it.
