Looking for my first record player. HELP!

That crosley T150 is likely as good/not any worse than any of the other low budget tables with the same cartridge. It's probably also a Hanpin, like everything else in that price range. I believe there's actually a higher end Crosley that's being produced by Pro-Ject, which again, would perform like a project. Crosley doesn't actually make anything so judging their products simply by the name isn't super useful.

This is all academic at this point as OP's hubby has already purchased a table, so unless she's willing to make him send it back. Speaker wise I'd think the Edifier or the Mackie's are good options for powered speakers on a budget. OP should decide whether she wants a set of powered bluetooth speakers to keep things simple or if she wants to go with a receiver+regular speakers so we can provide more directed guidance. :)

1 - OP wants to hear vinyl.
2 - Budget is $200
3 - OP's husband bought the AT-LP60-BT
(This was probably about $125)
4 - This leaves $75 for speakers, preferably powered, possibly Bluetooth.

Where are all the guys that used to participate in those 'Build a decent system for under $100' threads? This should not be that hard guys.

So sorry, 4-2-7, your 1st statement is incorrect. And yes I was pointing out that the OP wouldn't be able to see the info, not insinuating that Hose53 was trying to hawk his own equipment. My apologies ... I should have been clearer in my meaning.

I wanted to point out that for many years I used first a pair of early-80s JVC and then later 80s Sony powered speakers and a Walkman to provide 'portable' tunes ... had it at work for a long time (the Sonys replaced the JVCs when the office got broken into and they were stolen). 30+ years later I was still using these with a desktop computer at home (heck, I used them as monitors while digitizing some vinyl). Now my daughter is using the same set of Sony powered speakers while she is at school ... hooking them to her laptop and phone!

An updated version of the same should provide some pretty decent sound and we've had some good suggestions so far. How about Edifier R980T? No bluetooth, but they are only $70.

Of course Black Friday may provide a better deal on the bluetooth version or similar .... or Boxing Day and see what sort of deals may be had ... perhaps a bit better set-up that could also be used for the TV?

Did he get the -bt version or just the LP60?

EDIT-Reading comprehension. Those edifiers look good, or if he can stretch, I think these would be a good choice:

Partially incorrect so I corrected that post, but the fact remains the same that you can link other members to BT postings on the open forum. You where misleading Hose53 that he was breaking rules or doing wrong, that's all I was pointing out.

Sorry, I did miss one thing, no that unit is not mine nor am I affiliated with the seller, that one is in Indiana, I am in Ohio, (no not a Buckeye fan!). For my part I learned a bit more and respect all and agree, enough said.
 
Homer4Beer - regarding Crosley. I'll let you make those purchases. My personal preference is weighted in another direction. That's one of the best parts of this hobby. Choices! We all have em and make em. Hopefully we learn from those choices over time and make better ones for ourselves. My better choice may not be yours. However I don't need to eat a turd to know it's going to taste like shi*... :D

So the OP has got a table with a built in phono stage, they now from what I gather need amplification and speakers.

They may have some kind of AVR though and don't know if they can hook it up, so that's a question needing to be asked.

Otherwise the cheap easy option are wired power speakers that they can plug the turntable into.

I would not recommend bluetooth connections because you defeat the whole reason to play records by converting them to digital.

It's a purchase I personally wouldn't make either. I would (and did) go the second hand route.

The YouTube posting is simply trying to address the misinformation over whether the Crosley will damage your vinyl or not.
 
FWIW I just purchased what I recommended for my son for this Holiday. So pleased with last years purchase.

Keep in mind that if you go with any turntable you're either going to need an amp (a low powered one from partsexpress.com might work well depending on which speakers you go with ) or already powered speakers (such as the ones bundled into that Amazon Fluance turntable deal offered below the turntable description). Don't forget a decent cleaning system for your records! Tell your hubby/bf he ain't done buying yet...lol.
 
My wife and I were in this same scenario 3 years ago. Send your husband to this forum and have a little chat. That is the best Christmas gift you could give him for his audio future.

I ended up with a vintage 70s setup we bought complete on CL. I was going to say to get him involved instead of surprising him but I see he took that upon himself. LOL.

What will happen is he will want to "upgrade" very soon. It's unavoidable. ;-) He might want to upgrade before he opens that new turntable and return it.

3 years and about $1,200 later I have a stereo that many here would drool over and about 1,500 awesome records. All from Craigslist and thrift stores.

And here I have been spinning records long before there was an internet or an AK, and have spent thousands of dollars, have a collection of records that I started buying in the early 60's as a pre teen, and there are systems out there that make mine look like a Crosley. The only end is one that you make a choice to terminate at.
