Luxman L120A.

Hi -

I just bought a Luxman L120A (not M120A) sort of on a whim. I found a lot of info about the L80, L85V and L100 but nothing about this one. Anyone has ever used one?

what do you mean no mention of it?

There is a lot of mention of it on the interweb and a few links to posts like yours looking for information. There is a spec sheet on the web for this unit.

Don't think a lot of them were made as it is not all over the web like many of their other products.

Only in one annual catalog, the 1981 offerings. Seems to be between the L-580 and the L-430, 100 wpc @8Ω. yada, yada, yada.

Could you share some links? I genuinely cannot find any uselful reviews besides tech specs and another thread asking for information about it.

A brochure and a catalog will not have reviews, just Luxman's specs for the unit not some website's idea of what the specs are. I didn't see the 4Ω rating for the amp is the reason I say that.

Tech specs (obviously) do not carry reviews or opinions thus my thread. I was hoping to elicit opinions and contributions from actual users of the unit. Anyhow, I already bought the unit as I stated above so I'll post once I get it.

Good, we don't read about that unit much so your impressions and comparisons to other units in your system would be nice to read.

It seems the period audio magazines be it Audio, High Fidelity or Stereo Review haven't been put on the web yet so the reviews from that time period aren't as available as many older magazines.

Hello to you. I ´m new on the site. Thanks to blue shadow for helping me figure out the way to use ak!!! Still not totally sure of how every thing works for forums. (Exemple: is it ok to write on a thread even if 2 months went by since the last post?) Well since i dont know i will do anyway. I ´m planing on fixing up the blown amp stage on a newly acquired L 85 V luxman. The left side has some burnt marks And doesń´t work. It ´s Also obvious that someone did some messy ( very messy) repair work in there. My question is : if i use the the right side ,wich looks untouched, to order all parts and copy the reconstruction. Does it make sens?? I am a cabinet maker of trade. Not an electrothecnician. But I can weld properly and have some (bit) knowledge of electricity and mechanic....i have repaired lot of old amps but this project is more than what i usually do! Since i plan on changing all components of both boards. I have read on some forums that the schematics for those are incomplete or wrong and there seems to be some unclearness about it all...... This is why i would like to " simply" copy the original side. Thank you in advance for your opinions and any advice. Also dońt hesitate to correct me for english errors or proper terms since french is my first language

I had the Luxman L-120A .. bought from new in 1983, along with a Luxman turntable (PD 284, am fairly sure it was) and B&W DM7 mk2 speakers. Was a blinding bit of kit. Remember, in particular, the bass on Grace Jones' album, 'Nightclubbing' being so much more impressive than on my present setup (highly modded Planar 3/Hana EH cartridge, Musical Fidelity MX-VNYL phono stage, Creek 100A integrated & KEF R7s [R3s as secondaries, to the side of the room - on the 'B' output of the Creek]. The Luxman/B&W setup would probably have sounded quite a bit better had I gone for a decent MC cartridge at the time .. as the salesman suggested. I was only 19 & fairly green at the time (came by an unexpected windfall) .. and doubted that the MC would make that much difference. The whole lot got pinched in the early 90s .. what a shame !
