MAC 4100 solid walnut wood case done
Been planing on doing this for a long time. It’s almost finished. test fit for tomorrow Made out of 3/4” Solid Walnut.

I thought about a slip in case at first but opted for a three piece.my friend can make both.
I still need contact info to someone that can make a slip in 4 sided case for my 4100. Preferably MDF with walnut veneer. Any leads appreciated!

McIntosh Cabinets ceased operations acc to their webpage several years ago.

There is a gentleman on EBay by the name andswell that makes custom cases for various McIntosh amps/receivers. I just purchased one for my MAC4100.
PLEASE let me know what you think of it once you have it installed. Also, was your purchase price same as advertised? It seems there was some caveat….

I've gone through the gauntlet over this case prospect myself countless times within the past year. And the jury is still out.
My original faux case has one minor laminate tick on the top panel near by the cutout, and it;s no longer objectionable after some resto work, so I felt best to leave such be. Leave the unit original.
For me, the style of the 3-piece cab is unique, it is signature to this unit. A 4-sided case, sure, do it in whatever woods you wish to afford.
There for sure are artisans out there, that making 3 measly pieces like these in any wood and wood finish you want can be had. Bubinga, Koa, Maple, various Walnut woods Ebony-etc, and a vast variety of finishes applied.
Thing could look like a PRS 10-top Guitar with a finish a foot deep, why not?
I wanted that 3 piece Case from Audioclassics, even ordered one (Walnut), and thank Richard our forum member here for talking me out of the purchase and quickly canceled the order in time.
My personal ultimate pick would be just another 3-Piece affair, done as total stock as per blueprint design. But made with proper materials.
I could live happily ever after with just a properly done walnut case like Audio Classics has done, either solid wood or MDF Laminate, but at least provide a 1-piece Laminate for the Top Panel! AC's is not, it's 2 pieces, but also believe solid wood, not MDF.
This should not be hard, and especially considering the costs they ask versus possible others. Yeah, go ahead, add Tax and Shipping Charges.
I might conclude if you really want such, bypass all you know, and all you've seen, and seek a custom entity. Whether it's a Cabinet Maker, Guitar Shop, Custom Turntable Base Company, etc.
Realistically, and from a manufacturing standpoint, I would think Laminates might be easier to work with, and still provide beautiful end results if correctly done.
There sure was not a darn thing wrong with those two sweet Cabinets I bought for my two MC-2105's back in 1974.
I'll also personally confide as a 4100 lover. I did of course want to see how the 4100 looked totally naked!
Yeah, it looked OK, but I did also note that the right side panel on my 4100 has paint missing like it was scratched.
Why, and how such occurred is a very good question? Likely a maniac Tech who threw it all over the bench.
Such does not come like that from McIntosh.

I will give you a full update on the fit and finish once it arrives. I’ve attached a photo of the one I purchased. Hopefully it’s packaged well and arrives intact. Had some bad luck lately with mishandling during shipping.

Nope, I'm sorry but that case ain't working for me no kind of way.
The mod I did with cool blue LEDs would take me 15 minutes to return back to stock with a yellow dial face.

Hey man! To each their own. This response was for ducati2. I had the original three sided case for mine but the cheap particle board was coming apart. Tried without success to get a wood worker to replicate the original and came across this gentleman on eBay. The 4100 is unique and I personally wanted something unique to protect it lieu of the original case. I wholly understand, and it's a personal choice. If such wasn't so costly or hard to acquire, maybe I'd have 2-3 different cases to play with myself.
I once chatted with the fella on ebay who makes them, discussed how they fit in the cabinet, and he said this about recessing the face plate like Marantz did. That it would create a number of difficult issues to implement, and wisely mentioned that no McIntosh component's face plate was ever recessed into the Wood Case.

I'll back up a bit, and retract some criticism about your custom case.
For sure I can see a lot of quality work and hours invested into this case.
It's a one-off per a personal design. I can imagine, the top panel then could be anything you like as far as routing slots for cooling in various designs. No Emblems, nada, no need to advertise IMO, we know what it is.
One of my biggest dislikes with the stock 3-piece Case? The Top Panel looks very "thin" like a sheet of Cardboard.
It has no meat! Hence why I think many want a 4-side Cab instead.
The top Panel should've been made from a slightly thicker sheet of material be it MDF-Wood.
One could accommodate the side panels to look whichever way you choose for dimensions. One could make side panels perfectly match to mate the top panel height if you choose. No ridges. Even with 3 separate pieces, fit could be quite good.
Such is a sophomore high school shop class project.
