maggie console

I found a maggie console at a thrift store for $125.00.It works. The amp has paperwork and is model is "lafayette". I want to get into tubes,I just dont know about this amp.

Unfortunately the store will not let me pull the back off of the console. I wish I could. I did not mention earlier that the console itself is pristine. I mean no nicks, scratches, bumps, and the feet are perfect. I think I may pull the trigger tomorrow and buy it. I will post pics then.

If it doesn't say AstraSonic then it might be tubed,there would be a diagram on the back showing the tube lay out...usually but not always.Turn it on and see if it puts out sound immediately or if there's a tube warmup period.

the larger holes in the back panel are a good sign. if they look like pegboard, you may have a SS on your hands. Take a flashlight and look through the small holes. I wouldnt spend $125 if they wouldnt let me inspect it!! thats bad business!

I don't think I know of a Magnavox "Lafayette" console

On second thought ... Lafayette company made (or sold with their brand) many tube amplifiers and receivers. I wonder if someone dropped a Lafayette integrated into a console cabinet?
