I have a magnavox with a magic eye. The problem I have is that it is always shows a station that is tuned in but never changes what can cause this problem. Thanks Mike
If strong stations aren't distorted, the AVC is probably OK. One common problem with these is the 1 meg resistor which is usually hidden inside the eye-tube socket. Tends to go open... resulting in the symptom you're seeing. What's the model (chassis numbers)? Got a schematic?
I get some stations that are real strong and it is clear. I am amzed to how loud this radio can get!!! The tube socket is on the end of wires and the tube is held in by a holder so when you replace the tube everything is at the end of a wire harness. I will pull the radio out and get the number. Also the FM receiver is not working and all the tubes are lit and the metal ones are all warm. What else can cause no sound from the FM tuner? Thanks for your help Mike.

Bad capacitors, both the electrolytics in the power supplies and the coupling capacitors need to be replaced. This is probably 90% of your problem...that and maybe some bad IF mixer tubes.
start with the caps, and measure the resistors to make sure they are in spec. For whatever reason I've had several FM tuners that were totally DOA from open resistors in the IF strip. No signs of damage or overloading, but the resistor read infinite on the meter.
