I'm trying to get the specs on the bulb, but MD is not too open with schematics. Regardless, I'll pay $10 for a bulb but not $350. Everything else in the unit works perfectly.@mef38
MD will sell you the bulbs, obscenely expensive with ridiculous shipping.
If the only issues are the meters and a bulb I’d think long and hard about spending that sum of money on a repair.
These show up often in mint, working condition for considerably less money.
I sent him a message but haven't heard back yet. We'll see what he can do to help. Thank you for the tip.I don't know if he still does this, but there was a member "dwojo" IIRC who could match most bulbs used in our equipment.
That's been my experience (I've owned 3 tuners and 2 integrated amps). Though I haven't dealt directly with them since the merger-buyout and move, I've heard stories/testimonials similar to yours over the past year or so.Just an update, dgwojo helped me out. He assisted me in determining the voltage of the lamp and I'm ordering from him. MD came back with the price of $45 per meter. Since the new meter color is yellow and the FT-101 is white, they posited that I could change all 3 meters so that they would match. Finally the discussion ended with their recommendation of just buying one and changing the bulb over to the old meter. I really can't knock MD. Their customer service is phenomenal. Response was quick. But it is pricy. I'll try with dgwojo first and, if that doesn't work, I'll buy one meter from MD. I don't regret the unit or dealing with them. Nice group of folks!

Glad you were able to work with @dgwojo for the bulb. I appreciate that you went "full circle" on this issue and posted your results. Too many posters do not do that. Also, good to hear that the merged MD staff are still responsive to us MD owners.Just an update, dgwojo helped me out. He assisted me in determining the voltage of the lamp and I'm ordering from him. Businesses have to comply with Customs paperwork and associated costs from the carriers including the postal service. 2 bulbs will still generate the need to do this.Quote
‘I wasn't disappointed. (Except for price)’
Yeah, the service was good and five bucks for the bulb is what it is.
What I didn’t like was his answer about the twenty dollars for shipping.
’This item is shipped from Canada’
Really? Two bulbs the size of a grain of rice. Mailed in small bubble envelope.
Exceptional customer service would have thanked me for buying their product and sent the bulbs N/C.

I am expecting the bulb later this week. Once it is installed I will provide an update to all.Glad to find this thread ... just got a 101A off big auction site... decent sound for sure ... unfortunately, 2 of the meters are frozen with one bulb out .... I see this seems to be a common problem with these tuners ... @mef38 would like to find out how your experience goes with the meter/bulb fix
which is why I listen to commercial-free VPR Classical pretty much all the time .. mostly a vast wasteland otherwise.. the outdoor antenna helps lots where we live .. even though 2/3 of the meters don't work, the MD pulls in signals very clearly ...Commercial FM broadcast turned me off to FM radio listening. My tuner sits unused. AM radio, full of bloviating blatherers, is even worse. I pass. You can have my share. Too bad.
