My best FM listening experience occurred in Milwaukee, WI USA decades ago. An FM station there called WZMF (98.4-just below body temperature!) played so called alternative music, and they had been bought by some conglomerate and were to be shut down and replaced with tweedle-do-tweedle-dum commercial pablum. So, on WZMF's last night of broadcast, they played raunchy music and even cussed (F-word, even!) during the broadcast. They got one of the highest listener-attendance ratings of any other station ever! I stayed and 'closed 'em up'.

I can relate to your GREAT story .. when we moved to VT in '96, I enjoyed listening to a very knowledgeable DJ on a local station in Brattleboro WTSA 96.7..then the station sold out, and new owners ambushed him during his regular broadcast that he was done ...(new broom sweeps clean) ... so the final song he played was Tom Petty's 'The Last DJ" ... I was so angry I wrote a letter to the Brattleboro Reformer ... signal used to be good (I even recorded his Saturday Oldies show) .. then they started compressing the snot out of the signal .. you know the story ... antenna now pointed north, not south...
It's all about the money, not the art. Sorry.

I promised to update you on the results with the bulbs from @dgwojo. I purchased three of the following: 6v 100mA, 6v-8v 100mA and 8vac-dc warm white leds. I installed the first 6v 100mA bulb and it worked perfectly. But it was a little brighter than the other two. So I swappedd them all for the 6v 100mA bulbs. Now it shines. I have the other six bulbs for future use.

Good day. I have just purchased a MD 208 receiver off CAM and am just waiting for delivery. In my research to make this purchase I found lots of online chat but very little details regarding "early" and "later" versions having different amplifier designs. Plus there is two very obvious differences when looking at pics of the unit from a Google search, some have red LEDs and red digital display where others have blue LEDs and amber/gold digital display. Only thing I can assume is the "red/red" version is early production because that's what stereophile has pictured in its review from the first year of production of the receiver. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Steve

I had the same thought as I was writing my post. I'll just wait to get the unit so I can include the serial # in my enquiry to MD in case they have any history of service recorded on the unit.

You've bought yourself a very nice receiver. I had a 308 for several years before getting a new (at the time) Hybrid Integrated (MD209). You'll not be disappointed! FWIW...I saw the one you purchased when it went up for sale on CAM and gave serious consideration to getting it for my secondary system...but my wife loves the Marantz we have up there.

This is the MD90 I purchased new last fall shortly after I traded in my McIntosh MAC7200 and ATC speakers for a Luxman tube integrated, McIntosh DAC and Klipsch speakers. Wasn't long I couldn't be without access to all the great FM stations in the Boston area. Many of the best sounding ones with the best programing are totally commercial free except for occasional public service announcements. My favorites are 88.9 WERS, 95.3 WHRB, WJIB 101.3 all of which run the gambit from classic to modern rock, jazz, pop from all era's dating back to the beginning of recorded music, country classical you name it! Used to own a McIntosh MR77 years ago and like the tuner in the MAC7200 the MD90 is the only one I've encountered that performs anywhere near as well as a MAC. Noise floor, Imaging, soundstage width, depth like listening to vinyl or CD/SACD! These aren't outrageously expensive either.

Thanks for the positive encouragement. I am very excited to get it! I can still remember reading all the reviews when it first came out over 20 yrs ago and thinking then I wonder if I should downsize/simplify my system. Well FF to now, after a divorce and complete system sell off, and here I am buying one for my main living room audio/tv 2 channel set up. It will be replacing my 2250b in this position and the Marantz will be in the second system.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that review in all the web searches I did. I will be pairng the receiver with a NAD M51 Dac and KEF bookshelf speakers for now, until I can find some affordable used floor standing speakers.

Very nice. I had considered a Mac integrated before this purchase and as much as I loved the idea of the blue lights and the name, something told me the MD 208 was the better buy for me....
McIntosh definitely has it's virtues though I ultimately decided I needed more room to mix and match and the current combo in total pleases better than anything I've experienced before.
One of those silly questions - I've owned my FT-101A for years and it sounds marvellous and has been completely reliable through untold hours of listening.
So here's the question - I see everywhere reference to the FT-101A 'Etude', but mine has the nomenclature 'Elite'. I don't recall ever seeing another with that name. Is there a difference of any sort? Just curious. That definitely doesn't say 'Etude'.

The Elite was a later version that did not have a permanently attached power cable.

Does your Elite have a detachable power cord? I ask, because I found an ad for an Elite that had a fixed cord.
Just stuck my hand around the back and mine is fixed as well.
