Thankfully in the southwest with either our soft sand or very hard caleche we don't have basements, and don't have to worry about pipes freezing or earth quakes or tornados or Hurricanes. Maybe a dust storm 10 times a year and 20 to 30 days of over 100 degrees is our only headaches. And why would we own a wool coat. It only freezes 10 days or so. But its true, we have all this beech and no water. But once a desert rat always a desert rat. We do have 12,000 ft mountains fairly close if we want to run away and cool off or go snow skiing. Lakes help store water and so we can go fishing or water skiing. And no mater where you live its close to 400 miles to the nearest other big city. So you can move out of town a few miles if you wish to go out every morning nude to relieve yourself. You are allowed to pack a weapon to kill the occasional rattle snake or noisy 4 legged intruder. Fresh sea food is a little pricey and water is rationed in the summer. but we have summer monsoons so we know all about rain. So may be after you get the place fixed up, think about retiring in the Southwest, we have sunshine over 350 days of the year and the people are mighty friendly.
