I read in a recent thread (and others int he past) that some mfgrs. expressed a "dislike" or disdain for this site for various reasons.

My question is: why would we care what manufacturers think of the forum?

Exactly, why would any of us care. Our Members like what they like and that's all there is to it,whatever whomever the Mfg's or Brands are period:)

We should care. Why? It is a reflection on us and how this site is seen. Plain and simple.

Doesn't change anything one bit,All Audio/No Attitude is great and all that but this is personal and I for one bit don't see or care how they see this site or myself for that matter. They have a right just as we all have a right! There's enough crap in the World to really worry about without any of this nonsense about a Hobby or whatever you may call it Addiction maybe, that we all enjoy or at least should enjoy, without more nonsense like this:)

I get the impression that a lot of the time these 'manufacturers' can't understand the attraction of vintage, and feel that vintage lovers could be a potential untapped market, (for their new gear). If only there wasn't so much high regard for vintage gear, and so much of it, I guess that means 'sour grapes'.

Manufacturers should care what we think . Although a small? faction , we are interested , if not obsessed , about audio and they should at least try to court us as customers .

We don't care ... but what are they saying? Not that I'm really all that interested, you understand, just idle curiosity.

Throw away society, use it one year, and that's it. Vintage community, the worst kind of people.

Us.. the general public... Just because we hang out on AK does not make us a special group...

Being here is no different than a group of people that would go see a concert... The general public...

Meh, the older I get the less I care about what others think.

FWIW, it seems that since we have a large contingent here of folks that like vintage and aren't interested in what they are selling they shouldn't care as many here aren't the customers they seek.

Perhaps THEY should stop passing judgement and painting with the broad brush???

What manufacturers?

Given the nature of (any) business, the only God they have is $, so somehow we threaten that.

My guess is REPUTABLE manufacturers do not care at all about some forum attitude having general discussions, other than gaining free information about how people regard certain products.
Big manufacturers probably do not even know this forum exists...

McIntosh sure knows we exist.. Along with Bob Carver... and many others..

AK has always kind of been tilted more towards members being more DIY and tinkerers than people who look to walk int the store and buy a complete new system... By nature, DIY people are going to buy what they can find.. old.. vintage...

We have people here that don't like to tinker, and who go buy new gear, but they are the minority.... Lots of them here, but just less of them than the DIY people..

Nothing wrong with either party, but may times it does get heated because for some reason the people who DIY can't get along with those that like to buy new, and vice versa...

Some day, eventually, maybe i will become more about the music than the gear, but I doubt it... We seldom get into arguments over who the best band is, but man.. we sure can debate the best metal to make wire from...

As AK represents a fairly large cross section of potential customers, I would think it far more important what we think of them than what they think of us.

It's not like they're sending any money our way.

more that the members who think vintage is better than anything in the world and feel they have to tell everyone so.

When you get obstinate, to the point of being asked not to come back any more, like in a room at AK Fest, then that is too far. That has happened to a few AK members at our own fest.

As to the few members who were obstinate about vintage and asked to leave, they are entitled to their opinions, but certainly should respect the vendors in their rooms. They paid to showcase their wares to interested parties, and not to engage in debate with naysayers. It's common courtesy, which like common sense, isn't so common anymore...

But to judge an entire group by the actions of a few really never has been right, or should it be, but it unfortunately happens all the time.

Good point!

I'd like to know the names of the companies denigrating their potential customers so I can be sure not to invest in said companies and to know which products to avoid. OTOH, the juvenile meanderings of some market research hacks will not cause a loss of sleep given a competitive market.

AK fest was open to the general public.. not just AK members, BUT, AK members are also part of the general public..

Lots of people make asses of their selves in public.. If a manufacturer is holding a person's actions the responsibility of AK which has no responsibility for a public member's atitude, then the manufacturer is the one with the problem..

Yes, AK gave the manufacturer a venue to show their wares in, but AK can not be held responsible for what happens as far as public stupidity.

It's no different than when a town holds a concert at a town party. People get drunk and stupid and fight at the show.. The vendors or band at the show don't hold the city responsible for having idiots there...

The very nature of AK is to comment on gear,
some will give a rational account of themselves,
some will rant and rave.
I'm sure the manufacturers can see through that and know it's only a reflection of the general public.
You will find some flakes everywhere.

Unfortunately, or not the fiscal health of this site requires sponsors. The bad mouthing of new and high end manufacturers and their equipment prices etc. does affect the attraction of manufacturers wanting to be sponsors. This site should be friendly to all audio fans, just not the DIY, or Vintage fans.

Why would any manufacturer send money our way when they are the brunt of criticism and ridicule by the vintage crowd? Speaking of sending money our way, how many posters in this thread are subscribers to AK? (Those who are thank you for your support of the site.)

I have a main rig of more modern gear, and a vintage rig I enjoy as well. I enjoy them both. Sometimes the AK family needs to come before your personal mantra. IMHO
Regards,
Jim
