Manufacturers commenting on AK (?)

I think everyone should strive to be considerate, not mattering if it is a personal or a business dealing, its mainly about decent conduct and integrity. It seems to me you wouldn't have to worry about a person or a business having a negative image of a person or a group of people if they all behaved with integrity and class.

But we should still feel free to express honest opinions, no?

Maybe, if tempered with consideration. One can differ with class and not be boorish about it.

Being a distraction at one's place of commerce isn't acceptable anymore than damning a forum for the actions of a few is.

Said it before, say it again, regardless of how big we think we are, we were overruled by John Q when the move was made from silver to BPC. when asthetics stopped mattering. There are less of every day and I would offer that this population as a general, is more knowledgable than the manus - as a general because they absolutely do not manufacture anything anymore (and the chinese who do could care less about the product) and much - if not most - of the circuit design is now done by skynet, er I mean computer programs.

Ear buds and iphones, its the only future I see surviving.

AK has a place for everyone. Special forum areas for those who are into classic equipment ... and even a place for those misguided individuals who lean towards new production ...

Sure, but for example saying, "I prefer vintage gear" carries a different tone than "I think new gear is overpriced junk.".

Unfortunately, or not the fiscal health of this site requires sponsors. The bad mouthing of new and high end manufacturers and their equipment prices etc. does affect the attraction of manufacturers wanting to be sponsors. This site should be friendly to all audio fans, just not the DIY, or Vintage fans.

Why would any manufacturer send money our way when they are the brunt of criticism and ridicule by the vintage crowd? Speaking of sending money our way, how many posters in this thread are subscribers to AK? (Those who are thank you for your support of the site.)

I have a main rig of more modern gear, and a vintage rig I enjoy as well. I enjoy them both. Sometimes the AK family needs to come before your personal mantra. IMHO
Regards,
Jim

Agree 100%

True, AND as an added bonus, both statements you referenced are true as well! you are on one heck of a roll tonight!

^^^

That would probably be my sentiment after my Watkins equipped Infinities brought a big gun Pioneer SX-whatever to its knees...overpriced junk....even though neither is necessarily true. So I'd keep that sentiment to myself out of consideration for those who hold them them in high regard because I know there are plenty on this forum who do.

Might be true for you but it's not for me; just so there's no misunderstanding.

No misunderstanding at all! I have made it quite clear in my few posts on the subject where I stand. And I never belabor the point.

I prefer silver to BPC, I prefer 78-79 squarebodies to any other chevy, I prefer 90-96 F series to any other, I prefer the V65 to any sportbike, the mark IV to the Lima 385 and the savage 110 to the remington 700. and Im comfortable in all that.

(actually, on second thought, I have actually stated the FIRST statement, many times, in this reply in fact. The second statement however I have never said that, but I have (as recent as 2 years ago in another thread) said something similar you might be (are) misquoting, todays gear, as you increase the price point to where it is no longer junk, becomes overpriced. As I say in many posts, this *is* the future. The manufacturers have but pennies on the dollar invested in these things. They are built wholly by machines. They should be cheaper. Far cheaper. Like cellphones WITH a 2 year activation cheaper. Take CD players for example. We have only been selling them for 35 years. If you buy one and the conversation starts off with something like 'I just got this for $300...' all I am hearing is blahblahblah. Its overpriced. On any planet. In any economy. Regardless of what it does, does not do, sounds like, does not sound like. There is a not so subtle difference in what I am saying. But that does not prevent it from heading overhead like a 747 for brazil. Surely in this day and age of the interwebs people are not THAT divorced from reality are they? Are they?) ;-)

This is spot on, the first statement in benign and acceptable, and true for that person. But I cringe when I see someone make a statement in the lines of what I highlighted, as it is only their belief and not factual.

:thmbsp:

Edit: Anyone that believes the second statement needs to get out more :)

For myself I like old and new, as there was nice stuff made in the past and nice stuff made now. There was also junk made in the past (yes, even in the 70s) and made now. The generalization of "I think new gear is overpriced junk." is folly.

Not sure that it's entirely true that we don't support manufacturers. I think about all of the business that we drive to quality DAC manufacturers, component manufacturers (caps), electronic suppliers, Parts Express, Deoxit, and a lot of us supplement the new equipment with the old. Mixed bag...

I definitely know I do my part. Love the old, but buy a mix of all. Would expect that a lot of us fit into this category.

Maybe companies should use this as an opportunity to reach out to the community, rather than dismiss us. One of the co-founders of Schiit posts fairly often on head-fi.

I don't think anyone here should change their thoughts or their posts for any reason. We are a forum of independent minds who are drawn here to learn or share in their audio hobby. To me it's irrelevant whether some likes exclusively vintage, tube, new etc. My only concern is to happily read what others have to say and to share with anyone interested, my own experiences. I don't come here to be part of a collective that is concerned about companies, businesses or otherwise. This is an audio forum for audio enthusiasts.

Im on another site and they have a lot of reps that are members to help owners and would be owners with questions.

I feel here one of the best sub forums that I participate in is the McIntosh Forum, and we do have Ron C. who is a rep.

I don't think it is their responsibility to make this place welcoming for them, that is our responsibility to do this, all of us.

IF there are negative thoughts or comments from manufacturers, it not from the really big companies.

AKs problem is that there are too many sane people. We recommend gear, but we don't hype it. We discuss technical things, but there are people in all camps dicussing it normally. (Except in rare instances) We enjoy old, as well as new gear.

AKs member don't blindly comment on the benefits of "x". There is a great mix of both ends of the spectrum. Unlike forums that are hardcore in one camp and pride each other on that, as well as putting down the other side.

- HA comes to mind as an interesting example. Hardcore facts, no discussion of anything subjective without data (like abx results, it's in their ToS). Thus, I like it there, but couldn't hang out. (HA as an example, the hardcore cable sound high dollar envious if you can't afford it crowd hangs out on another forum and is just as one sided.)

We have discussions that are subjective. But some will jump in with facts and objectivity. It's a nice, friendly (mostly...) mix of audio related discussion.

Lastly, the "no attitude" gets enforced. By members in the way they post, not power hungry mods with a ban button. The general attitude of people on this board is also quite mature. Maybe due to age, maybe due to board size, I don't know.)

This is all not good for manufactures. They like bias toward something. And some sort of attitude in your customers really helps in marketing. Then they can work with it.

Lastly, we are simply to cool. Haters will hate. :music:

Yes and the key word would be "Experience"

To bad there is so much preconceived opinion without any experience with components that might be the target of said opinion.
