Marantz 2216 recap

Those values are fine, power supply seems to be working well. 1v or so can even be variation in your wall voltage feeding the power supply.

Need to do some detective work on the other sections of the amp. Perhaps the PS was weak before and now that you have brought it up to spec a transistor or cap on another board has acted up.

I'd say your recap was successful, as hifi said, something else is doing it. Now- can you test it over headphones? Verify bias is set properly.

Oh, I have the manual, problem is understanding what the indications mean. Manuals are not intended for the beginner hobbyst like me as they assume a certain level of knowledge i do not possess (but im willing to learn).

So when the manual says: connect a vtvm "across" what does that exactly mean? Can you explain this as you explained the voltage measurement?

Thanks!

I cannot test it with headphones right now, I have lost the mini plug to plug adapter... Need to buy a new one... But I will check the bias on the amp board.

Set your meter to read in MV, measuring across a resistor just as it says, black lead on one side of it, red on the other. If it reads infinity set your meter to the next voltage reading- autoranging meters you just set it for DC and it will read whatever voltage it produces. Adjust the trimming pot that it specifies for the mv specified - 4.5mv DC. You'll have to do it for each channel, right and left.

I still wonder why everytime I press the power button while its playing it sounds perfect for that milisecond before it completely shuts off...

should I test the transistors on the main amp board?

Is the distortion in one channel or both. When you put the unit in mono, any difference? Describe the distortion. Have the controls on the unit been cleaned?

Its on both channels, both on mono and stereo, hi filter on or off, loudness on or off. Its all the time. The distortion sounds like a badly tuned radio, I also notice that volume goes down significantly, I can turn the volume knob to 12' and it is still low volume. (will try to post a recording of the distortion)

If I start the unit with the source playing the amp sounds perfect for exactly 4 seconds (I have counted) and then volume goes down and distortion appears... Then I turn the amp off and it sounds perfect again for a brief moment before the amp completely powers off.

I know the voltages of the power supply are good, but can a capacitor be faulty and still show correct voltage?

I am recapping the main amp board now, checking the sound after each new cap and nothing has improved (or worsened) yet.

Have the controls been cleaned? Both channels distorted is usually power supply or dirty controls. Anywhere else would usually present itself as one sided.
