Marantz 2216 recap

ok so now that the Wima's are in, and all is checked what are the ECB voltages at the transistors?

So, the resistors RE39 and RE40 tested correctly: 10

I guess next step is to test the transistors?

ok so one side of RE39 and RE40 is 36V, and according to the HIFI eng. schematic the other side should be 16V or 18V I can not make out the printing.

I tested yesterday with the WIMAs in place. The values did not change, I still measure 32V on one side of the RE39 and RE40 and on the other side 0,6V (it should be 13,5V according to schem).

You had mentioned something about a 10K resistor providing a 32V drop being strange... Could it be that the drop is correct and the schematics are wrong and the problem lies somewhere else?

In the meantime I'm teaching myself some basics on how to use that scope I have...

I will post pictures of the patient soon, this thread is way too long for no pics :P.

Why do interesting threads like this die out before they finish? I read through all this hoping the thread would come to a happy ending. I'm curious if the distortion problem was isolated and what was causing the problem.

Cause there are two types of members on here- the ones that come here to help and the ones that come here for help. Once the "for help" members fix their gear they are like a fart in the wind- gone.....

Ehehe, just finished reading all 8 pages only to find out that there was no conclusion to the problem's causes... :|

I'm trying to set the 4.5mV voltages via R735 and R727, and R736 and R728. How long is the recommended waiting time till the reciever warms up? After startup the voltages fluctuating.

Going back to your first post, did this work before you recapped the power supply board (first board you recapped with bad sound after)

Replied to the PM you sent.
I see everything twice, just like Yossarian.

You have to do these tests with no speakers selected, no headphones plugged in and with the volume control all the way down. .
If it is over 3 VOLTS on both channels, then something is very wrong.
If it is, in fact 3.8mV to 5.2mV, it is fine. Small fluctuations are normal.

Don't want to open a new thread about Marantz 2216 recap. I'm in the recap job of my 2216.
For the start I've bought capacitors for the power supply board. All Nichicon UKW series. Are these good or the Elna Silmic II's are better?

Neither, low impedance ones are best in the power supply like Nichicon PM, PW, HE and the like. The ones you mention are audio grade.

Thanks! This means it's prefered to use all PW Nichicons in power supply board, and audio grade capacitors on the other boards like tone board, phono board?

Are there any order list with the best fitted capacitors for every 2216 board? I found one on this site but there stays UFW for power board.

Power board recaped. Very interesting all the replaced capacitors were within specs. What a quality, more than 40 years old components.

I replaced the C323 and C324 capacitors too in hope getting back stereo on FM but nothing. No stereo and the channells remain unequal. The left is so quiet, the right is normal. In mono both channells are uqual. The H304 and H306 transistors are OK.

Finished the power supply board on my 2230 and 2216, and started the power amp board. Replaced some capacitors but now stucked at C701,C702,C703,C704,C723,C724.
In the service manual stay C701,C702 1uF 25V, when pulled out the capacitor it is 1uF 35V.
C703,C704 are 47uF 63V the service manual shows 47uF 50V.
C723, C724 are 1uF 50V, when got the capacitors out they were 1uF 100V.
The problem is I've got the Digikey package before a few days with capacitor values from the service manual. :(

If they ran out of a part, but had a higher voltage one in stock, I doubt that they would stop the production line.
The parts you ordered should be fine.

Thank you! So that means I can solder this lower valued capacitors, no matter the onboard capacitors have higher values?
