If the transformer is blown, the 2600 becomes a doorstop. The 2600 had this problem when new. If the transformer is not blown, it can be fixed.

Does that have anything to do with the power supply? I heard that was an achilles heel of the big Marantz receivers from that time period.

The toroidal transformer was the achilles heel of the 2600. The 2500 was more conservatively built and not a ratings hound like the 2600.

Yes, the transformer has everything to do with the power supply. It can be re-wound but takes a specialist and plenty of money.

I'm sure we'll see this 2600 on eBay soon. Even with issues, it would sell for $1500.00+ as long as its cosmetically clean.
