Marrs up on Fraud Charges (Don't buy there!)

I dunno. It's pretty clear on the website that they are going to take a long time to ship.

I've never ordered from them, but it's refreshing to see that kind of honesty.

It is also required by law. If shipment isn't going to happen in a couple weeks the customer needs to be informed.

Not to be waving the Marrs flag too much, there is a there out there that talks about the PRB belt cross reference manual. A few comments on the age and inaccuracies and then a long bolded, multi-colored post by Marrs Communication probably talking about why theirs are better. With the time it takes to format a bolded, varied color post with lots of spacing, one would think those involved could have answered a dozen emails or shipped some product. Business acumen might not be their forte. With all the emails they claim to receive one would think that they would have a different address for issues and address those in a timely manner to avoid all the web discussions about lack of product receipt. But maybe that is their plan, let em complain so business doesn't get any bigger than it is now, they might not want to grow.

Website said 7 days to ship belt, also said it was in stock. Not shipped after 10 days, no response to any emails. I had to open a case with PayPal. Also disputed charge on my CC. Damn, first hiccup with these guys, now I know what everyone is talking about.

for all the bs and the fact that no one has ever lost their money with them, I would think a 5% error rate for a private one man, one woman in a different state an acceptable level and with guessing 1200 orders a year that is 60 folks. We are just hearing from those that can't accept the terms that Marrs states: "We suck at delivery, we don't know exactly how to make it so orders are shipped out so if you order from us you are taking your chances." Everyone knows it what is the big deal? I didn't think AK was about slamming a business on a quarterly basis when someone has a problem. I know they don't respond to emails but there has to be a better way.
Not true.
I lost my money with Fred.
$35 for belts that don't fit. Not willing to jump through anymore hoops.

That last statement is why you haven't been taken care of. His site is nothing but hoops. If one doesn't jump through them exactly as he specifies before, during or after you are in the hoop jumping arena, there will be no satisfaction. It is not a mark on marrs for your discontinuance of the absurd bullsh!t that must be done to place an order to say nothing of follow-up with an issue. That second part is neigh on impossible but when done the belts or funds arrive.

But in your case, I don't know. Fred sent belts. Probably feeling like them not fitting is your fault. What a screwed up business.

I ordered 35.00 in belts, not a lot on July 15th, at that time their webiste stated 6 days to ship. On the 10th day of no email or ANY communication ie Shipped, about to ship, Got your Order, NOTHING. I asked them for an update (4 Days after posted ship time) and simply got what could be taken as a nasty response telling me "It's only been 10 days since you paid) ??.
The following week or so it showed he was on Vacation, meanwhile, I have customers waiting for me to repair equipment. What the @#%$&^&% am I supposed to do in the meantime??
It's now Sept 1. Still no communication for ANYTHING, opened up a case with Paypal and Still "Awaiting Sellers response" .

Terrible Terrible customer service. Doesn't seem care about customers. Stay away from that site. Every time it's been a Bad Experience with these people. He's Proud of having customers served by only 3 employees but what the hell is wrong with someone and their ethics about taking money and NOT providing ANY communication or product or refund.

Stay away from Marrs Communications unless you want to lose money and be ignored.

Have you lost money for payment of belts and no receipt ever? Closed case? I don't think they steal money, just horrible at fulfilling instant gratification expectations or even normal expectations. But some day you will get good belts or your money back if that is how you have to roll.

Hope it all works out. They are not the place to go for belts for someone needing them anytime soon. Best to order for expected demand in 2019 or maybe 2020. Then just wait. Horrible way to do business.

So you guys are telling that the correct belts for vintage cassette players are ONLY available from this outfit?

The correct belt is not available anywhere. Marrs offers the better belt options, not so thick that there is an increase in wow and other speed variations. Many supply just a generic belt. PRB makes em available in their sizes. They have a cross-reference that is 30% correct for the length but the width and thickness are very important, too. Remember we say only a Thorens belt on Thorens tables for proper speed, same with tape machines but no one has original belts anymore. Marrs has sources what he believes are the best belts available today and he makes you wait for them if that is what you want.

So he did the research, and now is hoarding the information to be able to provide a bad service, like a cable company, with the attitude. Interesting. Restoring vintage cassette players is a niche in a niche. Maybe it's a lot more popular than I thought. Seems someone would come in to fill the void if there was any profit in it.

That makes it his intellectual property, fruits of his labor and available at a price which includes slow order fulfillment in many cases. I got no idea what needs to be done to get a supply of high quality belts to the folks that need them.

I would think sourcing the belts wouldn't be too difficult in itself from an O-ring supplier or manufacturer (though they may only sell in large quantities which would be another hurdle) but doing the research in order to know what fits where would take a LONG time and would probably only come after years and years of working on cassette decks.
It really is a niche in a niche where the information is priceless to a very few but not nearly a large enough quantity of people to make it a full time job.

The demand for cassette decks is probably the highest it's been in years with small bands releasing tapes again. I've actually purchased a few myself when seeing them at shows. I don't listen to cassettes but I like to support the bands if I can.

He attempted twice to send me a proper belt kit that he advertised (NOT some custom fitment).
Then wanted me to tear deck down yet again to send him my still good original belt so he would actually know the size.
Also wanted me to send belts back for a refund. Eff that! Only a four month ordeal, with no satisfaction.

I suspect this problem will only worsen. I'd also fathom once an occupation becomes more of a quagmire of complaints and drama, the passion is lost. Maybe the passion and desire to run the business wasn't passed along with the torch.

No matter how this plays out, it's sad to see this unfolding.

aHA! That explains a lot. I didn't know a torch had been passed from a former (and I ASSume more conscientious) owner/manager.

The discontinuance of all reel to reel belts except Sony seem to be in line with your assessment.

did you get a refund? I guess only after you send the belts back so no resolution on that one. You don't win and Marrs sold another belt they needed to unload, hoping it would fit, I guess.

As I read it, the daughter in another state is now running the business?

Without going back and doing research, I'm also of the belief that is correct. If my once robust memory serves me correctly, Krista also had a not too recent family addition, which is a full time job alone.

I can empathize if this is the case, but does not excuse the ensuing bottleneck of orders, and the mad scramble to keep up.

As in another thread, I opined that hiring an additional employee would be something they should consider, as clearly the business owns them, instead of them owning the business.

Is Marrs Communications dead?
