Marvel loses patent infrigement suit

Jury trial took place in Pittsburg, Carnegie Mellon's home turf. One wonders whether the outcome would have been very different in Silicon Valley. Marvell claims the patents are invalid, due to prior art.

Pittsburg is in Kansas. Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, Carnegie Mellon's home turf.

IMO there is a bigger issue at play. It seems that Carnegie Mellon waited until the last minute to file their lawsuit and maximize their damage award.

Normally the legal world tries to get people to minimize the messes they make. This case might indicate a sea change to whoever makes the biggest mess wins.

It will be interesting to see if the trial judge discusses that in May, 2013.
