MB Quart owners - Raise your hands!!

I had a set of 290s which now live with TaylorPlayer. Fantastic, full, accurate, pleasant sound from relatively compact bookshelf. TaylorPlayer has his hooked up to a Kenwood monster receiver and some vinyl. They can do no wrong in his space.

Currently on the refurb pile is a set of MB Quart One compact bookshelf speakers. They need a little tweaking, but so far they show great promise.

I have try replace qm 19 hc tweeter with my rtc 19 from ori qm 215.03cx model companent..its sound fantastic, background so rich, very wide sounding...but the only thing not good is too bright in some song especially woman's vocal with the sound "s" in the end ..the "sss"don't know why suddenly too sharp in volume till hurt my ear...even i have try in every angle of tweeter also the same..

That's surprising to hear. Could the capacitor/s in the crossover need replacing? Was anything done to the crossover in terms of mods?

My Hand Is Raised Now

Call It,

The thread that would not die. Anyways, largely based on this thread, when a pair of QL 402 S popped up on Craigslist for a pittance, I pounced. And sure happy I did.

Our study has been a challenging space to get sounding right, right in this case being subjective. I've tried matching a variety of speakers to the NAD 3080 that resides there, with results ranging from thin to boomy. That the speakers need be in the built in bookcases also seems to present some resonance challenges.

Finally, these MB Quart bookshelf speakers have accomplished what acoustic treatment and/or other speakers didn't. That desired combination of full richness in the low end, with articulation when needed, is there in abundance. The highs sparkle. There's depth and separation that reflects the intent of what's being played. So far I've listened to Donald Fagen's The Nightfly, Annie Lennox's Diva, and Georg Solti conducting the London Symphony Orchestra's reading of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra. All sonic gems, all being done justice.

MB Quart pops up so rarely that I was unaware of them, but include me in the list of believers now.

So messy, when I drool on the keyboard..........................

I have been running MB Quarts in my cars since ~2000, and love them.

I currently run DSD 213's in front and RKM 169's in the back, with a DSC 450 amp.

I mounted the tweeters in factory housings with the help of some weather stripping:

I have a set of 5 QLC's in my home theater - purchased them over 10 years ago and I just love them - especially the 404 mains.

I thought about it and it has now been 17 years since I purchased the QLC 404s. I'm listening to them right now with a Denon AVR and they're still wonderful. Yesterday I was reminiscing about when I purchased these speakers. Odd that I could still remember going into the specific store and auditioning with a friend. Odd that I could still remember how beautiful the QLS 830s were. I couldn't justify the expense at the time. I was in college and shouldn't have been buying the QLCs on a 0-interest credit card, let alone the QLSs!

So I searched eBay…

And I found a seller that just happens to be unloading 8 pairs of new old stock! There were 5 left. The price is probably half what I would have paid in 1999. I slept on it.

And I bought this morning. I'm pumped.

If you're interested: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MB-Quart-QL...-Brand-New-unused-Original-ones-/232049468328. At this price, I really cannot recommend MB Quart highly enough. When the seller says "They are the last [new pairs] in the world" I think he actually might be right.

I think that is the tweeter that German Maestro builds now. They changed to an inverted titanium dome in the early 2000s.

Just acquired a pair of quart two's, hooked them up to my NAD amp and am astonished by their depth and musicality. Not too bright, certainly not muddy, but a refined accuracy. Info on these is unobtanium. Beautiful gold binding posts, esoteric audio internal wiring, 4 ohm impedance rating. Titanium tweeters sound very transparent and I don't feel they have any edginess our metallic harshness whatsoever. Very airy in a sweet way. The low end is tight with good effortless depth. Listening to Dave Grusin/Migration is ethereal. Return to forever/ romantic warrior is delicately powerful. I think I'm in love. Cast frame woofers and rigid cabinetry exude integrity in craftsmanship. After owning numerous JBL's, Paradigms, B&W's, Monitor Audio and liking them all very much but never quite loving them...maybe it's just the nuance of my particular hearing that seems to gel harmoniously so well with these speakers...Whatever it is, I plan on keeping these for a very long time. I believe these are the ones made in Arkansas from German parts.

Nice!! Glad you are enjoying some MB Quart glory. I still remember getting my original pair, blasting Blue in Green, and getting teary-eyed.

Just today I finally got my home office / listening room set up as I've wanted it for probably over 10 years. A big reason it's finally looking and sounding like what I'd always envisioned is those QLS 830s I referenced up above. Just wonderful!

Enjoy!

I had a set of Quart 2. I totally loved them too. I would still have them if I hadn’t stumbled on a set of a/d/s L7e that worked out just a bit better for my room.
I had a tweeter replaced under warranty back in the early 90’s. They were very well built.
I wish I still had them.
I just love to sound of MB Quart and a/d/s.

Hello,
does anybody know about these Quarts > QL SP 2 / QL SP X2 ? I can buy one pair for 100 $ and I'm quite tempted ( or 280 for 60 $ ).
Thank you !

Funny I had never heard of MB Quart until 2 weeks ago. Took a risk trying them- bought their 6.5" marine grade compression horn speakers to put on the roll bar of my Bronco. Holy smokes are they efficient! 100wpc alpine amp driving them and turned them up on the highway. My ears were ringing for a day! They sound great and I can finally hear my music and 90mph on the toll roads lol.

I have not heard those models first hand, but I believe those are German made with high quality components and cabinets.
If they are in good shape, I would grab those as fast as I could.
I bet they sound great!

Finally, took the 280's and hooked them with my newest acquisition, NAD 7240 PE in mint condition, and the sound is ... just wow. I think this little receiver can drive much bigger speakers than these, but for now I don't need more power.

I joined the club today, MCS 490, have not listened yet, but, recall my car audio days lusting over the gear. Decent condition, no grills.

I just took ownership of the Quart 390's. Three way with teak wood side panels. Heavy. I used to have Quart Ones that sounded super nice for their size. I'd say these sound like a slightly brighter AR-11. The 11 wasn't bright enough for me but these are better for detail.

I plan to take them for a spin tonight. They are in excellent shape and the build quality seems pretty good. I had heard of the brand before but never had the opportunity to listen any, but for $35 I couldn't pass them up.
I also got a pair of Baby Advent III's from the same guy for $20. I promised my wife I wouldnt buy anymore speakers until I sold some of the ones I have.... It seems everytime I make that promise the deals start coming out of the woodwork.....

Hi guys,

Just reviving the undead thread here :)
Picked up a pair of MB Quart QL 502 S not knowing anything about them except they sound great ( from the seller ) and was amazed in the detail of the sound coming from them. They don’t look like much, but they do deliver. Unfortunately using the QL 502 as surround rears now as I have newer ( but older manufactured ) speakers in the front Vieta L’accord Prestige ). They are run via an Arcam AVR300.
I am browsing locally for a replacement of the QL 502S, probably some towers ... I would love to find some QL S830 or QL S 24. I plan to move the QL 502 S to my daughters room, just to keep them playing as they are absolutely lovey with any kind of music type.

In the pictures you can see me testing the MBQs vs Elac and B&W Dm603 S3 - a bit unfair perhaps given the bigger size of the MBQs, but these were available :)

Cheers!

Currently using MBQ 1000's for duty as fronts in my home theater system. Kinda a waste in a way as they are very good sounding speakers for music but that duty station is already very filled by my Speakerlab S7's. But I got the 1000's for a "can't walk away from" price and their big fat midrange sound works very well in the AV system.
