I just inherited a pair of Domain 30's (bookshelf). My dad bought them early 90's...said when he bought the system, he was going to get Bose 301's, but the guy at the audio store told him they were a bad fit for his setup, and sold him the MB's. I'd heard them at low volume at his house, but never thought much about them. But I agreed with the audio guy- I've owned 301's, and knew these were better.
I just recently in the last couple of years got into home audio again. I canned the old low/mid level surround system from 20 years ago, and bought a receiver & a couple Dynaco A25's. Then moved those to my home gym, and got another receiver, a pair of Elac 6.2's and a Dayton 12" sub for my listening room (home office). Humble, but the best system I've had since the 70's.
I've got to say, I'm really impressed with the Domains. I'm no audiophile, so I can't really describe it well, but- they definitely have more "sparkle" & clarity than the Elacs. And pretty authoritative bass as well, for the size. Of course, I get more bass out of the A25's, but it's a tighter bass from the MB's. I've read that they used fantastic tweeters, crossovers, and very high end components.
When I get a chance, I'm going to move them to the listening room and A/B them with the Elacs, but I'm thinking they'll replace them.
I've searched and searched, but as everyone says, info on their home speakers from that era are scant. I have no specs on the Domain 30's, but would love to see them, and I'm curious what they retailed for back then, too. And I'd love to find a pair of their towers to replace the Dynaco's. I've enjoyed them, and they're fantastic on most music, but they're just not the best for all types.
