MC 402 speaker tap ?

Which for a JBL S2600 speaker. Logic would say 4 ohms since they are a 6 ohm horn loaded speaker. What would I loose (gain) if I were to change to either 8 or 2?

Thanks for your answers.

You won't hurt anything so try all 3 and go with what sounds best. As far as lose/gain, you would lose maximum volume off the 2 tap, maybe gain some dynamics off the 8.

Older Mac amps, maybe 7270 and before, seem to like the "minimum, not nominal" impedance of the speaker to not be below 20% of the tap so 6.4 off the 8, 3.2 off the 4 etc. The newer amps can better deal with the current the lower impedance needs if it drops below the 20% mark.

Expert extraordinaire Ron-C has mentioned that some B&W speakers are rated at 8 ohms but drop to 3 and can have a tough phase angle and will usually sound better off the 4 tap even on the newer amps. So try different ones and "listen".

BTW, my "guess" would be you will like the 8.

I switched from 4 to 8. Much, much more refined, better bass and I gotta' say that this combo ( MC402 C46 ) on these speakers ( with a Tannoy ST50 )kick a**!
