Wow. I really learned a lot reading all these comments. Thanks A LOT for taking the time.
I see there's a certain consensus about my late Denon being a very good cartridge, and retipping being the best alternative for my budget. When I first posted this thread, a retip was out of the question. I live in Argentina where we have the most excruciating customs regulations; having the cartridge sent back to me from USA would probably imply paying 50% of its value (new) in taxes. And also waiting months for it. And maybe never getting it. So nop, it was out of the question. But then it turns out I'm going there for a few days in March. I guess I could very well send the cartridge from here and have it sent to my hotel when I'm there.
So new questions: 1) Where should I do it? I know about Soundsmith, but people here talk very highly about a certain Andy. And also 2) I see in Soundsmith's web page that there are different options for a rebuild / retip. Are the most expensive worth the money? is it worth it to pay, say, $350 for a "Ruby Cantilever / Nude Contact Line Diamond"? (Please, keep in mind that in this corner of the world 500 bucks is half a month's salary! :/ )
