Keyboard jockeys? Maybe more likely concerned former customers hinting about the emperors lack of clothes

A new product would be something YOUR young sales people could sell every week with some consistency and volume.....this is nothing more than a limited edition, vain, ego trip for all parties.
 
First, I in no way can afford one of these amps so my opinion may be worthless.

I collect some European model trains. Marklin is an interesting company in that just about every other new item is a limited edition of some sort. In reality they are in the business of producing Hummels that happen to have motors in them. Mcintosh appears to be drifting that way with Gordon Gow, etc., etc. short run, "limited edition" items.

As someone above mentioned, he couldn't believe that the company would spend all that development money to produce 100 units. Unless a gold brick inside the chassis was used to lower distortion and noise, I would think the performance improvements would show up in all current production.
 
You could use any McIntosh preamp with the MC275 50th. C2300 is a natural match with meters and tubes and sure worked well at the show. Those big XRT1K speakers sounded great on the single amp but two in mono would have been a treat.

I love my MC275 MV, and I really like the new one, with the new features, but I could live without the green LED's under the tubes. In the beginning I didn't like the binding posts, but I got over that.

I'm very happily married for 30 years, so I really don't care if the ladies like the green lights under the tubes.
 
Soho matched System at CES

Here are a couple of shots of the new XR50 Bookshelf speaker combined with MA6600 integrated amplifier with TM2 tuner module installed and MC301 disk player. This system is a little over twice that of the compact MXA60 with similar features and could be used in average sized rooms.

The XR50 speakers were a star of the show in that they go down to 40Hz or below depending on room placement. People were looking for the subwoofer but there was none used. XR50 is a true three way design where the woofer runs from 40Hz to 500 Hz then the two 2" titanium Mid-Tweeters run to 8K where the 3/4" titanium super tweeter takes over up to 45 kHz. The three mid-high frequency drivers are mounted on a machined alloy baffle that is designed to minimize edge diffraction and increase imaging. The construction of the radial neo magnet titanium drivers allows very close M-T-M spacing as used in the large XRT2k and XRT1K speakers. Grills are magnetically attached and self centering.
These are ported out the rear and also have the Power Control illuminated McIntosh logo that matched the size and brightness of the same on the MCD301 and MA6600. Power from 75 to 300 watts will match XR50.

Over the course of the past two years these have been developed using countless blind A-B comparisons in front of dealers, advisors and many others who rated these against unknown premium speakers. Sound quality is assured.

In the areas of off axis listening and true deep bass response these are unmatched for their size. They will be shipping next month and are available in all three wood gloss finishes, Black, Red Walnut and Pear Maple.

I'm always wondering what my XLS112 is putting out in comparison to the MA6600...

How about a new sub with a power meter? How about one with a built-in electronic crossover? Controls on the front and switchable illumination. Maybe use the same VFD as most modern McIntosh components for parts/cost sharing. Hmmm...

It figures, I had to laugh at that one. This is pure genius. If you get the women on board, well, anyone just might be able to get one. To think of not having to sneak, ask, or plain beg to get another piece past the wife. Now I am on board with the LEDS. Congrats, and seriously, I won't utter another negative on this one. Whatever it takes.
 
XR100 is pretty much full range, 30 Hz to 45 kHz are the published response specs and it sure sounds like this on the bottom, very clean, detailed and deep.

You've reminded me to never be a customer.

The lights are tacky. You don't have to see it in person to think that, all you have to do is have a hint of good taste or an eye for design and aesthetics, or to have seen a McIntosh unit from a time before they would put these kind of things on their gear.

I'll go back to jockeying my keyboard now.
 
I am happy with my 275s without lights, but to each his own. If such features help sell the product, and keep the company in business, then best to offer them.
 
Lights on amps are not new, heck the two McIntosh amps in my living room have tubes so bright they light up the whole room. From 1958 no less.

When or if (when) McIntosh comes out with a mainstream version of the new MC275 would it be possible to retain the normal startup sequence (amber one at a time to all green LEDs) but after 3 to 5 seconds have the green glow slowly fade away to reveal the natural glow of the tubes? I think that would be a nice effect in addition to being able to switch off the illumination entirely.
 
8005 tubes are much larger than those in the picture. MI 200 uses two 8005 outputs with 6 tubes in front to drive them and 6 rectifier tubes in the separate power supply. Kind of the MC2KW of its day.

That's a good idea (from my perspective, at least).

That is a very interesting idea, but probably means another little circuit to build, and add to the PC board.

I switch to turn the LED's off might be easier, but then they have to cut another hole out of the steel chassis.

I guess either way it adds cost to the manufacturing process.
 
Amp Meter Light trim control which is on all the preamps now will control the tube illumination. Light trim can be set to always off or changed on the fly to match your mood.
