Yes, data cables for turning them on and off. You can only adjust the volume on the 500 remote if it is hooked direct to the variable outputs. Then you still need the 300's remote to change tracks or go thru the menus.

So you have both power "and" data connections between all components? I did not know I was set-up challenged 'till tonight.
You only need to connect the 'data' connections for sources and preamps not power amps.

Not to help matters -- but those two addenium sheets that were not included in the MCD500 manual would show it in picture format -- rather than reading the steps in the manual. Browsing thru the manual -- it's easy to overlook the data cables. (Jim -- we've discussed how you can get the sheets).
Looking thru my C2300 manual WITH the addenium sheets makes it clear to connect data & power control cables to all components except amps and those of us with the UGLY MT10 (it's pretty -- especially when married with other McIntosh items, IMO).
P.S. MT10 only has power cable control in/outs.

When you connect up those power triggers does each piece turn on and off as you select it, and or go by it, to another selection on the input dial of the C2200?
I haven't set up data cables yet, but I have some trigger cables I built.
The only power trigger I am currently using is for the power amp.

I guess that's what The Absolute Sound thinks Mac gear is good for. I quickly browsed thru the Editors Choice Awards issue I just received.. All of two Mac pieces (listed together) the C-46 and C-2200. Oh, I forgot the McIntosh Coffee table book! You'd have better luck obtaining praise or reassurances of McIntosh gear in Consumer Reports than in any audio/video magazine.

What about Stereophile's glowing review and awards to the MC1000? And more recently of the MC501? As to consumer reports, I never (and never have) look to that for opinions on audio gear (or on anything, for that matter). So, I don't really know what they review these days. But it seems to me they used to only review mainstream stuff, the gear that one would find on the shelves of Circuit City.
And didn't Sterophile also praise the C200?
In years past, I can recall reviews offering praise of Mac gear. Okay, we are talking quite a few years at that, in some cases...High Fidelity Magazine, Audio to name a couple.

I have one power trigger cable from the "main" power trigger on the C2200 to the first MC501 "in", then another power trigger cable from the first MC501 "out" to the second MC501 "in". I have another power trigger cable from the "acces" trigger on the C2200 to the the MR85 power trigger "in", then from the MR85 power trigger "out" to the MCD 205 power trigger "in", then from the MCD205 power trigger "out" to the MCD301 power trigger "in". Man, I'm getting dizzy!
The data cables are individually connected, one cable for each source, from the back of the C2200 to the MR85, MCD205, and the MCD301.
When I energize the C2200, all components come one, and vice versa when I put the C2200 in standby. The individual source components do not turn on or off when selected, although the owner's manual does say that three of the power triggers are assignable to sources, but I haven't tried this. I like the entire rack energized. Looks too pretty to turn off.

Yes, there are some good reviews now and then regarding McIntosh in various audio/video mags -- but, IMO they are few and far between when you consider the number of products McIntosh produces, year in & year out. You could count those praises on one hand over the last number of years as you pointed out.
Case in point -- the top 500 componets listing -- what 1 or 2 items made the last list I looked at.

You know what? The whole time I was reading my own post before submitting it, I was thinking what it must look like behind your cabinets. The inductance alone probably makes the hair on your arms stand straight out. :yes:
It really is amazing that there are no Hums, Buzz, RFI, EMF, Feedback, or Black Holes.
Although my Rolex does run backwards in the Theater... :scratch2:
