Yes, there are some good reviews now and then regarding McIntosh in various audio/video mags -- but, IMO they are few and far between when you consider the number of products McIntosh produces, year in & year out. You could count those praises on one hand over the last number of years as you pointed out.

Case in point -- the top 500 componets listing -- what 1 or 2 items made the last list I looked at.

I'm not even sure what list that is, but I get the drift. I do have to agree that it seems the number of reviews are small in relation to the number of Models MAC is producing these days. And that number has really been climbing, and I've been really impressed by that fact AND the level of quality that they've consistently maintained. I don't know if you've visited the plant-I have three times-and it's even more impressive once you've visited. I mean, the production plant is impressive; but the engineering department (which is generally not included in the tours but I talked them into letting me inside to see it once) is not very big...and it boggles the mind how they can produce so many models-and stay on top-with an engineering group that size.

I'm telling you, those guys are busy like beavers!! :yes:

sample frequencies

This is my first posting on the McIntosh forum.

I read through this entire thread but didn't notice anyone commenting on the MCD500's sample frequency of "only" 44.1kHz.

The MDA1000 has sample frequencies of 96kHz, 48kHz, 44.1kHz and 32kHz.

Would this limit the flexiblity of the MCD500 as a DA device? Or does the MCD500 re-sample a signal to 44.1kHz?

The DAC's used in the 500 are 24bit 192Hz used in Quad Balanced mode.

The unit also has two seperate lasers for CD and SACD.

Since this is a new item being distro'd -- thought I'd close the loop on this issue -- received the inserts from Brian (McIntosh parts) today.

I know there are others who never received them w/the mnanual-- so, if you're missing them; now would be a good time to bring it up --heck, you paid for it.

Received mine today too. Thanks for the heads up last week.
 
When I first hooked mine up and turned it on, I was a little disappointed. So, I left it on, and walked away. I came back later and tried it, and it was much better. Now I'm using it a lot, even with the sat tv. Enjoy your 500! :music:
