MCD1000 impressions

A friend of mine has an older set of Avalon's with REL Studio III sub, good down to 9Hz, (not much use for music down at 9Hz) but he has a huge basement and in that spacious acoustic space, the REL makes all the difference. In the "chest bass" is not a problem with his system, altough he does not use it that way, on a good recording, the bass instruments just seem to have a life of their own, fully fleshed out and holographic. That is one thing that is hard to achieve unless the bass is completely extended down to absolute bottom and the room is able to recreate those lows without turning into a sonic mess. Of course he also has very heavy amount of room treatments in place. I've never heard any full range speakers recreate that sense of holographic images by the way and he has had plenty of speakers too, he said the REL sub completely transformed his system and I agree, well matched, musical quality subs are almost a must in a room big enough to handle them.:yes:

I am looking forward to the design & execution of my 2nd Theater.
With the experience I have gained from my current System, the 2nd should be much easier. With the exception of the gear, it hasn't gotten any lighter!
I will probably use Macs new MDLP1 projector & also go with XRT2K & MC2KW's again. Too difficult to go backwards.
Another cool advantage is that I have already cloned my MS300 so my Music is good to go! :yes:

Maybe I'll swing by to your place on my boat since you have a waterway. Although my 25 footer will probably remind me of the SS Minow and Giligans Island if I attempted a journey like that from MD where I keep my boat.:lmao:

I am going to use the AP1000 & VP1000 combo. I also already have a new C1000 trio ready to go. I have been planning the new Theater now for almost a year.
Subs, well I may experiment with dare I say Krells MRS Sub, it intrigues me. A 400+ lb behemoth w/ twin 15" drivers with 4" excursion.
Front end will be all Mac the best they have when the time is right.
RGPC up the wazoo, Wireworld cabling, the newest Faroudja scaler may give Macs VP1000 a run for the money, but I will stick with Mac. I will be projecting on a Stewart 15-18' diagonal screen.
That's the plan! More to come!

Excellent review my friend. It's a double pleasure reading your review for those of us fortunate enough to actually own the gear. Every single thing you said is vividly clear and dead on target. I was just shaking my head :yes: after each line you wrote saying to myself "yes, that's it exactly!".

However, like I also said, in the end, its also a matter of preference. BUT one thing I did learn IS synergy between components is VERY important. Match wrongly, one gets the wrong impression as the performance then differs.
OK, enough said. We have chosen our partners, so for now, ENJOY !

Apologize for my naievete....newbie to Mc just scored xrt28, 1201's, c1000T and reading up on mcd1000/mda....seems MDA the cats meow but hearing things about REGA SATURN, etc., other transports....I know owners find it difficult to salam their own transport....but the real skinny on MCD1000??
What about Rega Saturn? You've just scored $53K retail worth of McIntosh gear, you are actually interested in a $2395 CDP? Unlikely scenario.:saywhat: Having spent some serious time with the MCD and having accrued over 140 hrs on it, I can tell you that the MDA is a perfect 10 and the MCD is a solid 9.5 as compared to anything I have heard or am aware of today. :yes:
