McIntosh MC275 MK VI Clone

Mac may or may not have a current copyright on its form factor from the 3rd generation design. That might be the main objection in spite of not cribbing the McIntosh logo.

I bought a ST-35 clone because I wanted a fresh new amp instead of an original version that would need rebuilt on top of the initial cost of the amp. There is plenty of room in the world for those that want restored original, or a new clone. If If wanted a MAC 275 MKlV, I would look damn hard at the Orsefon 275. That being said, stealing designs of equipment with active patents is just wrong.

The case for it being perfectly legitimate is tough to argue against but I still get a little creeped out by it being a direct copy sans nameplate.

Audio Classics had the Name Plate and in Gold to which I purchased. No drilling into the chassis as the holes lined up perfectly.

It's amazing to me what we will and will not tolerate. The maker of this amplifier profits at the expense of another's hard work. In addition, every one they sell comes at the expense of a real one being sold.

By the same token, are we OK with others profiting from our own hard work, ideas, etc? Or is that where we draw the line?

I get it if it's something still in production, and there are active patents. But after 20 or more years, the engineers, assemblers, shippers, sales dept. company, etc. Have all been paid and made money off the equipment they put work into. After all this time none are making any money for the work or sales of this product. I don't really see who is getting hurt here.

If it was being sold as a Mac with the Mac logo, I'd agree.
Thinking of Rolex and other lux logo branded "replicas", sold to deceive.
There's no deception here, it resembles another product but doesn't purport to be that product.

Do you have any aftermarket cylinder heads or camshafts in that car of yours? I am not saying you do, just that it's no different.

I usually will try to find aftermarket parts for my cars before buying at a dealership. Just today I had to replace one of the windshield spray nozzles on my truck. $11 for a full kit with two nozzles and all the tubing. If I had gone to the dealership it would have cost more just for one nozzle. The old and new parts were identical. I only buy OEM parts if its the only option.

Unless I'm mistaken, It does seem to have a rather large "McIntosh 275" logo on the side of the amp. I don't have any issues with this amp and am looking forward to hearing more about it, but it seems like it shouldn't have the "McIntosh 275" on the side.
