McIntosh Turntable Poll

On a more serious note, I am deeply disturbed, confused and dissapointed. I don't think I'll be able to sleep too well tonight. Whaaa the hell happened? :sigh:

I had high hopes for the McTurntable and was completely sure that I would buy it as soon as it hit the dealer. I guess it's back to the drawing board for a turntable for me. Sad. :tears:
 
I too am disappointed. It looks like they were trying to make EVERYTHING match but the looks just don't seem to work, at least from the picture shown.

I believe they should have asked some of us on the forum before putting this out. we are pretty good representatives overall for all things McIntosh but it does appear 'gimmicky" for a turntable. What works with amps/preamps as far as styling goes just doesn't convert very well in the form of a TT!

Just my .02 but my Scoutmaster is safe for the moment.

Sure, everybody likes blue meters but that doesn't mean you put them on *everything*......that thing just looks positively weird...what's with the absurdly fat platter...
 
Sad part is that at the rumored $7k price range, these are just some of the bad boys it will go up against. Not sure if anyone will take it seriously.

I would guess this has not been put into full production yet (at least I hope not!). It may sound fantastic but this is one piece that will not be a favorite of MAC enthusiasts so it certainly will not be well received by others.

Would love to own the prototype however as a collectors item.
 
I don't know how to describe that thing- that platter is just wrong. I might be interested if they used a platter and arm similar to the ones used on the VPI in the last picture above.

Ah, well- every company makes mistakes.
 
Agree that they goofed a bit with the styling on this one. There are better ways to make it look unmistakeably Mac and visually compatible with their other gear, without making it look like a mono-amp that someone stuck a platter on top of.

Probably sounds pretty good, though. Will be interesting to see what the "market feedback" is on this thing.
 
Say it ain't so!!!!!

I am goin out on a limb here. That has got to be the PACKING for the platter.

Platter has got to be beautiful smoke glass disk and in elegant proportion to the rest of the unit.
 
WOW! It is starting to grow on me. With a platter that big it needs a suspension system that is "over built".
 
I'm sorry but it won't be on my wish list. For classic good looks they should have went with a nice wooden base. I've never been a fan of all these spaceship looking TT
 
The Mac looks like science project gone bad. The front panel has to be chopped and channelled a bit and do we really need a meter to tell us what speed we are running at. Maybe go with a darker glass platter with a little blue light below it.

If you are going to do a fat platter do it right.... The Michell Orbe :thmbsp: Actually skinny with mass added is cool too with the Michell Gyrodec. Of course I'm biased because that is what I own! :yes:

Wow. That's pretty awful and it seems most here feel the same way. Even masterlu doesn't like it and he likes all things McIntosh. They really dropped the ball on this one. I was expecting something much smaller along the lines of the Marantz/Clearaudo turntable but glossy black with logo/controls lit up green of course but this is over the top. It's just plain huge and what's with the gigantic speed selector meter? That morbidly obese platter doesn't help either.
 
What we need here is to hear about the principles and philosophy of design that went into this "aesthetically challenged" piece. I am sure the stability of the drive motor is probably superb, I can relate to the oversized heavy platter, I would like to hear about the suspension on this thing, some info on the tonearm and cartridge would be nice too. There is a good chance it sounds great even if it looks gaudy. Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for this ugly duckling after all. :scratch2:

We should give it a chance. After all, had someone asked us, we might, just might, have said in jest that it MUST have blue meters on it.
