In this month's issue of Home Theater magazine there is an article on McIntosh including pictures of the tour. At the end of the article, Steve Guttenberg, the article's author, asks Charlie Randall, McIntosh's president, about new products. From the article: "Randall did give me a scoop: They're working on the first-ever McIntosh turntable, which will have, naturally enough, a black glass platter!"

Ok, you know what is coming . . . .

:worthless
Sorry, the magazine article did not have pictures. The article gave no additional information on the turntable.

Just think, for the very first time, one will be able to have an almost entire McIntosh music system from the cartridge to the speakers. Did McIntosh ever make interconnects and speaker wires?

If it's true I'm going to be among the first ones to purchase it: before this thread it was just a dream that I thought would never come true.

If McIntosh is going to make a turntable, then they ought to make a stand alone MM/MC phono preamp to go with it.

And McIntosh Cartridge, vinyl recordings ... (McIntosh table book indicated they used to issue records ...) ... Wow, a FULL McIntosh system (TT, CD, SACD, DVD, Server, ...... Tuner of course) ...... :D

They did at one time. They had two moving coil cartridges, the MCC-800 and MCC-1000, and a matching preamp, the MCP-1. They were offered in the mid80s. A tonearm was also briefly considered but with the CD coming on strong, was decided against. See Roger Russell's site for details.

I probably shouldn't open this can of worms but what the heck.
And the big question is Direct or Belt drive.......:scratch2:

I'll eat my interconnects if it's a direct drive. My money is on belt drive.

Actually it probably will be belt. Direct Drive would cost way...to much to develop. Besides Techinics wrote the book on DD. Lets not forget about the SP10 with a W&F (wow and flutter) of 0.025% you we be pressed even now to find a quieter drive system. One step short of that would be a highly modded SL1210M5G. Not to mention most of the good records available were most likely mastered on a Technics SP-02 lathe turntable. Just a thought......:D

The Techincs sl1200 is one of the best kept secrets in hifi bar none. It might not be very exclusive and there are better TTs out there, but it is a workhorse and it just works.

It would be great if they used an American manufacturer like Basis to create one. AJ Conti is a great guy and builds wonderful equipment.

I was told today that it will be a partnership with Clearaudio and will be out by the end of the year.
