Miata to Mustang

Hi All,

I was forced out of motorcycles.....and last year I sold the Miata.
Too low ..... with a progressive neuropathy getting in and out was just too difficult many days

.... and the 6 speed manual too was not helpful

No regrets selling it (there is a thread here on this particular story)

I'm 65 ..... and Yes my illness is progressive but I am feeling a little isolated with only having one vehicle.
My wife volunteers 3 days per week.....and I love that she does.

But when having a little better day I'd like to be able to hop in something and get out of the house and go for a rip.
And if I'm going to have such a luxury .... why not have a fun vehicle to do so.

Plus my wife and I loved a weekend tool in the Miata with the top down.....we even have the Tilley hats to go along with this :)

So I decided after a lot of research that a Mustang (convertible) might fit the bill.

A larger vehicle.....a higher seating level (easier in and out)....more comfortable ride, etc

So I looked and looked.....and finally have a deal in place for a 2014 Mustang GT
..... second owner (both owners senior gentlemen) ..... no accidents ..... very well maintained and cared for
29,000 miles .... mostly highway .... automatic

Anyway ..... we'll see if everything works out .... one more "hurdle" to overcome

Beautiful Mustang. Should be a great car. It's not clear from your comments whether you've driven the Mustang yet. I'd guess so given the that you are close to a deal, but mentioning because it's important to do so as Mustangs drives very differently from the Miata. On the plus side, the low-end torque of the V8 is great (something the Miata needs more of) -- on the downside, the Mustang steering and driving feel isn't nearly as precise. Mustangs didn't incorporate independent rear suspension until 2015 (I think) -- the earlier cars have a solid rear axle. I've not driven a 2015 or later IRS Mustang, but have driven a few various vintages of the earlier non-IRS models and they are very different from the sports car feel you have in the Miata.

All that matters is that you like it, but it is important to drive it quite a bit to make sure it fits your expectations.

Indeed these are 2 very different cars ..... and very different "rides"

As my initial post states .... this is a toy for a fun rip every now and again. As my body will allow.
The longest drive I will ever likely take is 45 minutes one way to visit a buddy.

The Miata became "impossible" to enjoy - too low to get in and out of .... the 6 speed was no longer ideal .... etc
I have zero regrets in moving it along .... was the right decision.

This is a final gasp at a little top down fun with my bride.....or for me to go for a rip and visit a buddy for a coffee.
It's never going to have major miles put on it.

And I bought well so likely sell it for what I paid when I'm done.
I actually made money on my ND ... all market dependent, right?

We're looking forward to this next vehicle chapter.....however long it lasts.

Congratulations... we are the same age and I get it!
About 10 years ago I noticed my father struggle to enter and exit his Acura RL (he loved that car), he passed away 2 years later and that's when I decided a regular cab pickup truck was the best vehicle type for me as I age. I've owned one regular cab truck since 2003 and it's been my dedicated work truck ever since. My 2nd pickup truck is a retired work/farm truck that I bought after selling my fathers RL, I have gradually transformed it into a 400 horsepower sport truck.

One of my first modifications was to level the truck by lowering the rear, this made entrance & exit much easier and the huge 5 foot long doors no longer swung away on their own. Both trucks are easy for me to enter and exit, both provide a commanding view of the road, both ride comfortably considering they have leaf springs and live axles in the rear and both are very practical for my me.

The getting in and out was a big consideration when I bought the Subaru Forester for my wife , she wanted a small vehicle I wanted something with room inside and you didn’t ha e to do the limbo to get in and out of , perfect compromise !

Lol .... believe me I am already working on the "heavy foot" syndrome I have always had.....but not with this many horses.

I will (for the most part) try to drive this as the old man I am - I know, I know, I'm only 65 .... but you get my point.
