MidCenturyModern For Sale thread

I know this isn't furniture but it seems like a thread that might have an answer. What would you folks call this? Does it lean to Mid Century Modern or Danish Modern or what? Enameled Steel tray with design and chromed edge. 8-1/2" x 13". I guess it's a serving tray. I've been trying to find who made it or designed it but to no avail. Thx, -Buck

Many of the mid century designers were influenced by FLW's view of an usonian culture, where form was driven by utility and function. Your tray would be a melding of Eames aluminum styling and Wright simple utility. It is close to Nambe, but cheaper and colorful. And nice. :thmbsp:

Mid-century and Danish design wasn't just about furniture, it was about everything from furniture to fixtures to tablewear and appliances.

Here is a great auction in Pennsylvania, with lots of good, fun eye candy...

Why can't that be close by?!? I'm massively in love with the couch in the top row.

I'd love to have the room divider and the topless girl statue, too.

Yep thats why I love it. I got stuff all over, but my place tends to be a mixed bag. Some true danish, some danish style. Just got a cool stainless tea/chocolate set. Of course could just be junk to most people. :D

Thanks Dave and Sam for response on my tray. (or to keep it musical I guess that would be thanks Sam & Dave :D) I have bought and sold a number of small MCM items, mostly Danish decorative stuff, some I hold on to but I'm not dedicated to a certain style. I see lots of furniture I love the styling on but no more room and it's too much of a hassle for me to try to flip. Re the Blue/Chrome tray, thanks for taking a look, I'll find the maker some day. I'll probably hang it on the wall somewhere until I do. I keep thinking it's Scandinavian but sometimes it's hard to tell.

Don't mind the novice here, but would this be considered mcm?

Also, I want to revitalize the wood. Is it teak, walnut? I use Howard's on speakers - is that suitable on this as well?

Picked it up from CL free today :) (although I did spend $60 renting a truck!)

definitely danish modern, probably early 70's.

nice piece for sure.

its teak, so a good teak oil would do miracles for it.

looks like you are missing a chunk of trim on one of the drawers.
you can always cut a piece of teak out of a ratty donor piece...always plentiful in my neck of the woods.

for free too. wouldnt have passed that up myself. good score.

Thanks - that's exactly what I need to know. Wasn't sure if it was walnut or teak, but now that you mention it, walnut is darker.

Yes, there ware 3 of the drawer corner pieces missing. I'm going to try and take one off and have a woodshop match 3 of them. I can't imagine that would cost *that* much.

I found a few 'komfort' branded pieces on eBay that went for some money, so I think it's a decent brand. The label says it's endorsed by the Danish Royal Family ;-)

Definitely Danish modern. Nice piece, and a great price!

Just as an FYI, there's a mid-century modern thread devoted to finds and interesting bits. This one is mostly used to post things that are currently for sale. We all find stuff in our CL, estate sale and auction searching that we can't get for one reason or another.

Ah, yes, that would be the one I was looking for. Thanks - I'll track it down.

Price those chairs new, that's a nice price for the set.

yep, and I like the original 4 post legs over the newer 5 post legs. they just have a better look.

they need a bit of a polish, but are in nice shape overall.

If I had the cash I would be jumping on them. but alas 1500$ for the 4 chairs and table are more than I can afford right now.
