Here's the problem: Another member says the bass respone is the same. What are the model numbers of the woofer and tweeter inside the ported version? What is the speaker model number? Can you post a pic of the rear showing the port size and location, please? :dunno:
 
Here is the ported version. Catalog #40-2066. These are called Pro 7.:D

Thank you, Riverrat, that is very helpful. Would you measure the diameter and depth of the port, please, and if you're willing, ID the woofer and tweeter by removing them and posting the driver model numbers found on the back of them?

Have you been following my Minimus 7 mod thread here on AK? I'm now to the point of figuring out how to mount the components inside, which is why I needed to know the port location, so as not to interfere with that when incorporating the mod into the ported version.... :yes:

I monted mine on the inside left wall with mounting tape and seemed to fit perfect, would not interfere with the port....

Left would be the port side from the front.

[I assume you actually mean starboard? ;) ]
 
Why not mount the crossovers on the outside of the cabinet. I'd bet when designed the volume of the xc was not taken into account when specing the cabinet. Also, if the mod results in a greater volume, the interio volume is reduced by that much. I'd be more concerned about this than the volume reduction from applying dynamat. Also, by doing this, it could allow experimenting with the xc design and cap models.
 
As observed in my measurements thread, they need subs, so consuming some of the internal volume is not a concern.

Sure, mount the crossovers externally, as I presently have them, if you prefer; I'm going to make them fit inside.

Make a slot-loaded vent using the external crossover board as a false back, or dual-chamber bandpass, maybe.... :thmbsp:
 
The port on my speaker is 3\4" ID and is located (looking from the back) 1 3\8" from the right side of the speaker and 1 3\4" down from the top. Sorry, I'm not going to take them apart for the id of the speakers. :-)
 
Hey , I'll jump in! I bought a pair of Minimus 7W's last summer and bought the Epay mod, it definetly made my office/classroom set up sing! Than i bought a pair of Minimus 7's last week, and put them side to side with a pair of Lafayette Pip-Speak model 1 speakers, exactly the same external size! I pulled the drivers out, different numbers on the drivers, but same value caps! So knowing Lafayette went "belly up" in what the late '70's , these things predate Radio shack ?
 
How:scratch2: do the Minimus 77's compare to the 7's?. Different creature?

After reading this thread (and another with measurements) I took out my old pro 77s. I have to say, they sound like little metal speakers. Like listening to an AM radio. Couldn't wait to get my Mission's hooked back up. Patrick
 
To muddy the waters a little more....

There's a M77 variant, "Optimus" 77's I believe, that are ported. I gave mine to my Mom who lives across town, but if anyone is interested, I can try and get some pix.....
 
The Cantons are probably very nice little speakers. Perhaps they were based on ADS speakers such as the L200 and other 200 variants?

I have some 200Cs that IMO are superior to stock Minimus 7s. That said, I've always thought Minimus 7s had potential for improved sound.

I've posted two pics below of the ratty old 200Cs I purchased off of Ebay a couple years ago next to a pair of Minimus 7s.

Well, the M7 critics will have to remember that Rat Shak routinely put them on sale for $19.95.
At that price point, there's little one can complain about.
 
I have a pair of Optimus PRO-X55AV. They look identical to the Optimus 7. They have a metal cabinet are 7 inches tall. They also have a ported cabinet in the rear.

Hope my previous post was not too negative. M7s are quite a well made package, particularly at $20/each.

I bought 3 new pairs over the years when they were on sale for $30/each and they're among the speakers I'll never part with. I presently use all three pair as computer speakers. I use "double M7s" (2 per channel) driven by an Accurian amp when I want some volume and a single pair driven by a miniscule 1W Realistic SA-10 integrated amp for quiet times.
