Minimus 7 Speakers

Ok, now for a question , The tweeter domes are pushed in alil, I tried the mouth to dome approach, but it didn't work. Suggestions? Thanks, Ed
 
I have a pair of Minimus 7w's that I upgraded with some Dayton poly caps years ago and they sounded good nearfield. They are in use in my bedroom now and I wondered wht they sounded flat from across the room. Yesterday on a hunch, I wired a 50mH inductor in series with the woofers. A/B'd against the non-coil-added one, the mid range was now less harsh sounding and the tweeters sounded much better. Must be the fact that in stock form, the treble peak from the woofer was messing up the response from tweets. I think I'll fool around with the x-overs on these to see what all the hub-bub's about.

Just found my 20th Minimus 7....a single orphaned White RCA #40-5002...Mint! for $4.99 @ Value Village :banana:
 
I have 4 just sitting and gathering dust. I picked them up to see if stacked they coud come close to my ADS L-300s and sad to say or happily, depending on how 1 looks at it the ADS wiped them big time but then again a decent set of L-300s will probably set you back more than the 20 you bought by a decent margin.

Brian.....Total investment ....in the 20 Minimus 7's is probably around $70.00...most were around $2.99 each...:thmbsp:

Nice price! I pay between $5-$10 per pair for mine, and I've picked up four pairs so far... but sold two. They are hard to resist, whether or not they sound as good as other speakers their size.

A friend in Australia just got done installing the Zilch crossover in his 7s and running a before and after sweep of them. The results are rather impressive. The unfortunate part is that the woofers at one point had failed and he did replace them with aftermarket units so the run is suspect when compared to a stock set of the speakers. Still they put in a generally impressive pass. I did the same mod to my Optimus Pro7 speakers and the results were miraculous. The thread is over at Elliot sound product under the heading of Mission MS50. My bad on that one.

Took em' home and listened to them in a smaller room and decided for the price that they will be keepers and I'll find a spot to fit them into my 10 speaker collection. IMHO they tend to be better at nearfield listening than full room listening. They seem to me to have a narrower sound stage than what other speakers have (at least mine), but for casually listening I'd give them a 6.75 out of 10.

Sorry to be so late to the party, but I've recently been experimenting with a couple of my Minimus 7's. Reason: I did not like the idea of the "baby woofer" being driven full range and only the tweeter being properly crossed over.

It talks about putting the X-over C and L in series across the amplifier 8 ohm drive (they are already) and connecting the tweeter across the L (as in the original) and the woofer across the C (the only change.) Only one wire need be moved in the box... check it out!
The notion is that the two drivers now each have a second-order X-over so do not have to deal with "out of range" frequencies.
BTW, the units are marked:
"Made in Malaysia" (date not known)
"Cat # 40-2045"
I don't know any model number.
Does the modification sound better than the original? I'm still evaluating it but am inclined to say "Yes, a bit!". As I said somewhere in the ARF post, the modification drops the in-box woofer resonance from 140 Hz to 120 Hz... and that's a good thing!
There are a few replies but none definitive, IMHO.
What do the experts here think?
