I going to assume this will get shut down quickly . but....
What does looting a Target store do for the situation ?

I don't know, but sometimes when I get upset, nothing sounds more exciting than burning down an auto parts store.:confused:o_O:crazy:

What starts off as a sad case with the loss of a life, gets blown way out of proportion due to history and other recent violent actions.
Plus rioting gets to be like Summertime blues. Folks travel from far away to get excitement and kicks in that they can't get at home.
It can turn into a lot of posturing before the camera for TV and public media, promoting agendas far beyond what originally happened.

One pastor I know with ties to law enforcement warned us to stay away and said
"I heard some solid reports that right-wing accelerationists called the “Boogaloo Bois” were on site Tuesday night and could be mobilizing to bring in more folks."

There is a different language involved in descriptions of such activities ...

Try very hard to not take sides, not be political, and just be descriptive in threads like this.

What happened to Floyd was absolutely terrible and those officers deserved to be fired.

I just wish there was equal or greater passion and attention given to black on black crime. Which kills exponentially more black lives daily.

Just strikes me as one massive misallocation of resources.

I lived in Chicago -- the South Side -- in 1968, including the spring riots following the killing of Dr King and, following a summer mostly spent in Provincetown (MA), back in time to see (the action was not far from our house) the the carnage @ the lakefront during the Democratic National Convention. I was just a kid but even then feared having to maybe go to 'Nam. Still, I saw CPD do things, mean things, that were utterly justified by what their opponents (Yippies, IIRC?) were layin' on "The Man".

There was some "summer ****" as well, while we were away in MA, so I agree w/ Heather re: "rioting gets to be like Summertime blues" in some places, some communities.

In all events, what's goin' down in Minneapolis reminds me of The Rodney King Incident... y'all recall that one, eh?

My belief is that if you really want to talk about this you can go to Gab or Politicalbullpen.com, which exist for the purpose of discussing this sort of stuff.

Mod edit: ...or PoliticalChat.org, AK's sister site, for this very purpose.

My Dad worked a government job in DC. He usually drove just inside the edge of the city, then took a bus to the Federal office buildings near the National Mall.
After the shooting there were no buses running, so he walked across town to his car and came home. Then, as now, we live 30-45 minutes from town.
That weekend was Palm Sunday, 1968, so after church he drove us into town to see what things looked like after the rioting.
Lots of smoke and damage in many residential areas in town. I was 14 - 8th grade.

Riots like this one will end when minorities are accepted as equal to whites. So probably never.
I'm not seeing what race has to do with this - except to the rioters. But I see it more like this: The locals make it a race issue, and they take it personally, so they burn down their neighborhood and steal stuff in protest. Meanwhile, the cops are frustrated by runaway crime and guys resisting arrest so the adrenaline flows and they get carried away, and sometimes someone dies. And when that happens, the locals make it a race issue, and they take it personally, so they burn down their neighborhood and steal stuff in protest. It's not about race so much as it is about people acting badly on both sides. Chris Rock made a video about this quite a while ago.

Yep, I'll bet things were scary (and hot) as hell in The District and portions of Prince George County. Portions of Chicago's South Side and the near West Side were completely burned out. Fire and other mayhem surrounded Kenwood, South Shore, and Hyde Park where we lived. Our only way out was ... The Lake. @ least that wasn't burning.
