I'm not so sure about non-functioning models, but I don't think there is nearly the interest in building model airplanes that actually fly in this era. I spend some time over on RC Groups, a forum for all things that fly, float, and drive in the modeling world. It's more about flying, but it has a section for just about anything you can imagine.

I don't really spend that much time in the builders forums. I do catch discussions periodically talking about the popularity of RTF/ARTF model aircraft (Ready To Fly, Almost Ready To Fly) as opposed to building planes from a kit or plans. My take is there isn't that much interest in the building side of the hobby among the younger participants. That's just my observation, and very well could be wrong.

As for display type models, I really have no idea how popular that is compared to the '50s, '60s and '70s when it was big.

Looks like you also have a Strombecker 1/32 slotcar track? I have a 72 footer that I recently took down due to reusing the space for other things. Replaced it with a similar length vintage HO track that takes less space.

All my Strombecker track and 1/32 cars (Carrera, Fly, SCX, etc) are in storage bins :-(

I also had the banked curves at the end of a 15 foot straight away. The Fly cars really moved. I scratch built a dual powerpack with 18 volts at 3 amps per lane, so the cars really could move along.

I originally got my set in junior high in 1970. When I set it up again about 2 decades ago, I started to collect track pieces from ebay. I also have a Careera electronic lap timer I was able make work with the strombecker track. It was a lot of fun.
 
Here are a couple Navistar/IH rigs I put together during the height of the pandemic. Buying models and supplies online was a fairly expensive proposition.
