MONSTER CABLE SPEAKER CABLE...

This is such an insulting comment. And very common from those who proclaim to hear differences.

My primary audio system is extremely good. I picked my amp because I could hear a difference. I picked my CD player because I could hear a difference. I swap 3 different preamps in and out based upon what I am in the mood for and can hear a difference. I auditioned many, many speakers, carrying prices up to $20,000/pr, and picked the ones I liked best, because I could hear a difference. The total list price for the components I have in my system is in excess of $25,000.

But when it comes to cables, I tested dozens of speaker cables and interconnects, selling for prices of up to several hundred dollars each, but except for some really odd & cheap cables, I could not hear a difference. Believe me, my system is very, very capable of reproducing very highly resolved music.

I do use decent quality cables, like Audioquest 10AWG and 12AWG speaker cables. Some nicely made AR Gold interconnects, which sold for about $15-$20/pr for 6' runs some years back. Not cheapie lamp cord or $2 interconnects. However in my testing, I did find some pretty inexpensive 14AWG speaker wire and $5'ish interconnects which were pretty good. I do have some $50-$100 Monster, Kimber, Tara Labs and other brand name cables, which I picked up on the cheap and which sound just fine (same as my AR interconnects).
Why are you insulted because I can hear a difference on my system and you can,t on yours? Sorry:dunno:

Ill bet my left nut and $5,000 that NO ONE can tell the dif between lamp cord and the most expensive cables blindly. Have a friend or spouse do a back to back ab test with both cables on same source and material with your eyes closed 5 times! I wager 3 of the 5, one will choose lamp cord the winner! If I spent 2,000 on some fancy cables I would certainly be telling myself that they inproved my system. Let your ears be the deciding factor not ones wallet and mind!

So your saying that you use lamp cord in your system. If you don,t ...why?

This thread is making me laugh. Keep um coming folks. This is better than bad tv. Yes I have both higher end Nordost flatwire and other high end stuff like MIT and Transparent Audio as well as lampcord. The newer 5 way binding post speakers get the nicer stuff. The old Ev Jbl and altecs as well as AR/KLH/Advent get the cheap cord wire. I've done my fair share of swapping cables and friends, wife and myself heard no audible diff.

Honest guys. I really do hear a difference. I just have a humble little pair of vandersteen ones a sansui au-919 and a sota sapphire with a sumiko ft3 arm. The arm cable is lat international. Oh well.

I have some cat 3 running from my living room receiver under the floor and spliced into an old phone line that goes to a phone jack on the wall behind the couch. I used some more cat 3 for the rear surround speaker wires, and joined them into a modular plug that I can plug into the phone jack.

WAF trumps sound quality every time. :)

P. S. It sounds fine for that application.

i find lamp cord sounds a little too bright - i like a rich, warm sound, so naturally, i harvest cable out of only the fanciest audiophile ovens. of course, if the cables are twisted the wrong way (cw), i unwind all the strands, and then, under the light of a full moon, wind them correctly (ccw), making sure i sacrifice the appropriate animals to Vinylnius, the god of speaker placement and double-blind tests.

Maybe that is why my heater cords sound OK. They were heat-treated in advance, and broken in by the heaters. :) Good warm sound.

I swear by my Monster Cable Powerline 2's, and for good reason. They are the exact length from the amp to the speakers. I didn't have to trim them down at all. This took 10 years and living in 4 different places to finally have the correct geometry of speaker placement to finally get them right.
