Moscode 600 Hybrid Tube Amplifier

Moscode's thing was hybrid amps, tubes for voltage gain, mosfets for current gain.
My Moscode preamp is similar, mosfets for plate and cathode loads, along with the output buffer but most of the voltage gain is tube. Exception is the phono input jfet, which of course was the noisy part in the preamp that led me on a rabbit hunt to get rid of the blasted hissing noise.

cant say i seen a moscode preamp before. seen the 300 and 600 plenty in classifieds and message boards, but dont recall seein the preamp.
interesting. for years high gain phono amps, like those with high enough gain for mc, and phono amps with low-gain tubes use jfets for low noise first gain stage because ...tube hiss.
The jfets were noisy. I did as close to a like for like as i could and it shut up. I'm sure they weren't that noisy when new. Its very high gain though, 60 to 80db depending on settings.
They had 2 preamps, the Minuet and the slightly later Minute In A. Mine is the later one.

I had a Minuet (modified by George Kaye) and it was great. A bit noisy, but not too bad, great big, warm sound though! NYAL (MOSCODE maker) also had the NCP pre-amp. NCP stood for NO Compromise Pre-amp - all tube and excellent sound. NYAL also made the Futterman OTL amps - crazy good but i hear they were'nt all that reliable?

I rebuilt a Moscode for someone years ago, I thought it was a 600, that layout is the same, but for some reason I remember it having compaction tubes. Maybe I'm misremembering
You aren’t mistaken. Moscode 600 uses 2x 6LU8 compactron tubes.

I know this is an old post but as I was cleaning out some boxes of old "stuff" and I came across a small packet of factory info on this amp and other factory products I received from the parent company - New Yoro Audio Laboratories, Inc. - back in 1985 when I first got interested in tube gear. So instead of tossing it out I thought I would make it available to anyone interested for the low low price of free. Just PM with your mailing address.
The packet contains two fliers on the Moscode 600 amp, one flier on the Minuet In A preamp, one flier on the Super It phono preamp/headamp, one flier on the 150/300 amp, a large fold out flier containing various information on their amplifiers and other related items, another smaller fold out flier containing a factory price list and information on other related items, and another small fold out factory fold out flier containing a list of hifi dealerships that covered New York Audio Laboratory products.
I know isn't a wealth of information, but it is the stuff the factory provided the customer when they contacted them with an interest in their products. And where are you going to find another "artifact" like this? Again, just let me know and I'll drop the packet in the mail.
