most attractive tube intamp?

I am going to second the FX-10. I got to spend about an hour with one and some Nolan speakers and it was fantastic. I almost bought one on the spot. :yes:

If you can get by without the modern convenience of remote control and want really great sound (albeit without the looks) then look at the Eico HF81. Really great sounding little amp.

Just my $.02 worth.

Good Luck with the search.

:thmbsp:

I think the Dynaco SCA-35 is among the most attractive-looking integrated amps ever made, but it's entrails aren't on display like the new breed of steam-punk gear. Like somebody said, de gustibus...

Great suggestions by everyone. I don't have one in particular, but I love the look of tubes. To be a good looking tube amp in my book you gotta spill your guts! :yes:

Due to budget .... I'm leaning towards a FX-10 or Jolida 102b or 202a.
Between the FX-10 and the 102b, will there be a significant difference in sound quality? Output power is different of course but that's not a priority for me.

Thx

I use my Mac MA230 without the case. When I use it as a stand alone tube amp with my MX110, beautiful.

I always liked the look of the gold HH Scott 299C run without the case. The face and control layouts are very well proportioned.

So far my vote for attractive amp for my needs:
* Cary Exciter
* Cayin A-50T

Jolida and Prima Luna would be be next in line.

Realistically, I am considering a 102b or FX-10 right now. Maybe I should wait and save up for a Cayin or Cary instead ?? That Cary Exciter amp+DAC combo would look soo sweet in the bedroom !!
Hmmm ....

I am planning a tube int to replace my Marantz 2250 in our bedroom syste,. Goal is > 10w/ch, sweet sound, and look great! I love the look of Cary and Cayin.
Any other opinions?

Rob

If you can run your system at 10wpc, I would be looking for a SET. The Almarro 318b is at the upper end of your price range, around $1500 new, or you can move up to the tube rectified JAS 2.3 for a little more at $1900 new. Both can be had as bargains used. Likewise, both will put out 18 of the sweetest watts per channel money can buy through 6c33c tubes in SET configuration. Both have the look you're after as well. I haven't listened to a tube amp I like better, including the big money vintage and new Mac gear.
