most creative album covers

Camel...

British progressos Camel did a GREAT cover with their first LP. It's a camel's head/neck on a steam engine coming out of a tunnel...

I dunno if this counts as creative but I like it,

Paul McCartney The Fireman Rushes

Jethro Tull - Stand Up (which actually did when you opened it.)

Cheech and Chong - Big Bamboo (with the world's largest rolling paper.)

Could argue the level of creativity I guess, but there is just something about it...

Gotta mention one of the most famous (or infamous) covers ever. The "butcher" cover of the Beatle's 1966 "Yesterday and Today." It was an in-your-face comment on how the music business chopped up artistic integrity. The cuts of meat and dismembered dolls caused so many complaints, Capitol withdrew the album after only one day on the market, and replaced it with the tame cover photo of the Beatles posing with packing trunks. Of course, the original is now one of the most valuable albums ever printed. If you want one still unopened, expect to pay $20,000+.

I also liked the back cover of the Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables", but wasn't surprised that it is no longer available.

There are just too many good ones. It's an art form. A few of my favorites:
the obligatory "Sticky Fingers," and "Who's Next," Grand Funk "E Pluribus Funk," Captain Beyond with the three-D image, Big Brother/Joplin "Cheap Thrills," and Cold Blood.

Oh, and I forgot, Dylan's "Blond on Blond," Rock's first double album I believe. And I lost my "album cover cherry" so to speak on Dylan's "Bringing It All Back Home"

I just recently picked up this album.. I think it's pretty cool how the worked the picture disk art into the jacket are... different...

Is it true that the model on BeBop Deluxe's Sunburst Finish album is Susan Sarandon?
I never heard that!
They were a British band though, and she's from NJ.
But anything is possible, I guess.

Anyway, one of my favorite all time covers is
Oasis-'Definitely Maybe'

That's Enough for now...

When I was maybe 12 I saw this LP in a local Stationary store for like 79 cents, and grabbed it, so excited that I could afford a brand new album on my pitiful allowance.

My parents were NOT thrilled, and I honestly hadn't even noticed the cover art.

Eric Clapton, E.C. Was Here. Not a bad album, either...still love these versions of "Further On Up The Road" and "Can't Find My Way Home".

je

Close runner-up would be the picture-disc version of "Rocky Horror Picture Show", with Tim Curry in full regalia on the disc. You don't want to know where the spindle hole is...
