MuchoReverbo's Modern Surf/Spy/Instro-Mental Thread

Some Aussie surf instrumentals by bands that normally do vocals. Beachside pubs and the surf culture suits us!

Custard.

Midnight Oil

The Cruel Sea, More of a slide blues sound but it fits. Fanging hoons translates to "Fast hot-rodders" I spose.

Hoon: A young man who drives recklessly fast, especially one who participates in gatherings of car-culture enthusiasts and/or in illegal street racing. boy racer.

There's a spy vs Spy surf track on one of my CDs which I have to chase up.

The Cruel Sea track is unavailable to us in the States.
This one works

The Insect Surfers were originally from the DC area but guitarist David Arnson moved to California and started again with a new crew. Michael Abraham was the other guitarist on this record.

Love the Insect Surfers - saw them at a lost evening at the Ontario Theatre many MANY year ago which may have featured Joan Jett in the middle and Def finished up with Iggy Pop!

Argentinean band. Nothing particularly special about them. Very traditional sound.
This 2011 release is the sum of their product.

This song was released again today on a compilation from Missing Fink Records. I'm betting my last dollar it's the guitarist from Messur Chups- the band goes by the name The Guitaraculas and Oleg of the Messur Chups uses Gitaracula as his last (stage) name. Plus it looks like him looking backward in the youtube pic

Known for their high-energy, nostalgic 1960s sound—reminiscent of the soundtracks for Quentin Tarantino films—they have shared stages with legends like Dick Dale and Davie Allan.
