Looking at picking up a Fluke 115, 116 or 117 multi meter. What is it that everyone else here is using ? Just looking for some feedback from the people here.

The 117 is my go-to DMM. Great features for all electronics fix'n. The AC sensor is really not a requirement. Check the 116 and 115 and see if they have the same specs but yet missing the sensor function.

Simpson 260-7P, RCA WV-77E, or a Wavetek 10XL for digital. The RCA gets used fairly rarely, but it has its uses.

Fluke 8060a
Fluke 8842a/af
Fluke 87 Series 3
Fluke 189
Triplett 630

I use the 8842 and 87 most of the time.

When I get a larger perm bench I'd like a fluke, too. those models look precise equipment. Is the Rms factor that important for your apps over the common guy's equipment?

For readers and beginners:
I move my work a lot and gave myself a hobby budget and spread it around for the cost of one meter full blown about $280 and unavailable (minus 10-20amp capability. I was looking at the cost of screwing up one 'do it all meter' at that near cost uninsured equipment.

I bought a separate transistor checker, cap tester, 2 low cost DMM's with 10amp leads if needed, (one with an additional transistor checker, one for mobile) and throw in a soldering station for near the price (over) of one of those models. Mind you I bought an O'scope, too. but these meters can get you by for most audio apps with comparative reliability.

Just do your shopping over a week online.. you'll see prices fall in many products.

As I have always said.. It's not a cheap hobby but less expensive than others. (I knew a couple guys who died doing miniature railroads.)

I'm happy with my 115 for audio, automotive, and general household work.

We have a couple of 115s at work, they work well as pretty much all Fluke meters do. At home I have an old 87-II that I bought years ago; it's still going strong. This past summer I snagged an old Fluke 27 kit on Evil Bay; it's a 'retired' military meter. Apparently they surplussed a bunch of them over the past year; I paid something like $60 for the kit - meter and a HV probe & test leads in a plastic case. It's a very sturdy piece of hardware. I don't know if many are still available, but that's an option worth exploring.
