Multiple turntables

Currently 3 here -

Technics SL-1700 in main rig

Technics SL-D1 in teenage son's rig

Thorens TD-166 II pending new plinth build and mods.

I don't dare buy any more, nowhere to put them without SWMBO finding out!

Cheers

SteveH

I have a habit, too. Believe it or not, this is less than it was:

VPI Classic.
Marantz/Clearaudio TT-15s1
Empire 208 (x2)
Lenco L70 (x2)
Mitsubishi LT-20
Pioneer PL-570
Sony 2251 (on loan to another AKer).

Only the VPI and Marantz are in use but one of the 208s is going to get mono duty and one of the L70s is going to be a 78 player.

John, I have a question. I read from a couple of people that they took their modded VPI's out of the system after completing their heavy plinth modded Lenco L75's. Can you imagine this, owning both type of table?

I went into greater detail via PM but yes, I could imagine it..moreso the VPI that people tended to modify a lot, like the HW-19s. The Classic is more like the Empire 208 than the Lenco (a lot like it, actually), and side by side it destroys a stock Lenco L-70 running a DL-103 on the stock Lenco arm. Modded? It probably would come down to the sound any given person likes and the amount of money they put into an arm. The stock Lenco arm, however nice it is, is not going to beat the 10.5" unipivot on the VPI. Especially not the one of the L-75 (I have L-70s..I like the arm but it's not a world beater).

Even stock...I can see why so many like the Lenco idler drive sound. A 20lb platter gets you a lot of inertia, though, and that gives the VPI a lot of that similar drive to its sound.

Way too many.
Empire 498, stanton 681EEE...in the main system, I use it about 3 or 4 records a week. Very good and dynamic, but needs tweaks as something isn't quite right.

Thorens TD 124, Ortofon arm....just bought a couple weeks ago...set-up in dining/kitchen room system. Playing frequently while making small adjustments, probably 3 sides a week. Deciding on new cartridge. Wow, better than Empire, even with old pickering v-15 it came with. Clearly has tons of potential.

Garrard 301, no arm....also new to me. Have been cleaning, greasing and learning the details. Deciding on arm, cartridge and will build big ole plinth soon. Excited to get this and Thorens purring.

Mitsubishi DP-EC2, another relatively new to me, came with Shure M91ED and sounds very good, but still less than the Empire and Thorens. This is also hooked to the dining room system. However, this gets most of the playing time, about 10 records a week. Super sleek DD, elegant auto functions, heavy, quality throughout...even the dust cover was designed and built right. Usually play this TT while fiddling with the others. Got this on a trade for a Marantz 2230 that I hadn't used in a year. Came with 3 extra headshells and cartridges, all working, nothing great.

Miracord 10H...was my most used until recent purchases, has the big ELAC arm, and sounds very good...way better than I ever expected, more lively than the Dual, but a little sloppy. But I could never get it to sound good on the inside songs of the LP, first song or 2, great... so only used on certain albums. Now resting on the sidelines. Someday would like to build big plinth and really try to upgrade this TT...seems to have huge potential.

Dual 1019, two of them...AKA 'Vodka Idlers'...One working, the other for parts. I built a plywood plinth, and really loved the sound of this turntable, but the inconsistency of the head shell connection drove me to drink more than I already did. Probably would have only 3 TT's if this som-bitch worked all the time. Trying to figure out how to hardwire, and/or murder.

Dual 521...accidently dropped a 25lb bar-bell on it several years ago...kept on ticking, but now collecting dust through a fractured dust cover.

Last but certainly not least...Model 24 KLH system, matching speakers. Recently cleaned, lubed and adjusted and improved it a lot. No reason I should have this unit, but I listen to it at least twice a week, it is in my in-home office....can't help it...I just love it. I don't play any of my real good vinyl on it, but thats only a small percentage of the collection.
So I guess I have 9. I am trying to incorporate a plan; one TT must leave in order to get anything new...not working. Dan

I have three turntables (Dual 1225, Sony PSLX 250H, AR-XA) and the only way I can use all three is to set up three complete systems. Any suggestions on how to set up all three on one receiver (mixer?)...

I have several TT's and after using a Russound AX-6 with success on a bunch of CD players I tried it on the TT's. It works fine so I got one for them. It's a 6 source switch and I don't hear any degradation in SQ. YMMV though. Just make or buy short interconnects so you keep the total length as short as possible. You can get them new for around 55-75.00 or try and find a used one.

I finally got back into vinyl again about 4 years ago. After my divorce there was no one to tell me not to! :thmbsp:
I was/am still on a budget so I started by picking up a real nice 1st gen Pioneer PL-560 and Shure M97xe. I later upgraded to a Technics 1200 MK5, and I like these tables so much I scored a second 1200 MK2 on CL for next to nothing a couple of weeks ago to start working on as a project... (my current wife loves LP's also..)
My fellow audiophile friend has been jabbing at me calling me DJ Ray....BUT the funny thing is he mentioned the other day what a convenience it would be to have 2 tables to switch back and fourth with...so now he is looking for a second 1200 table also!
TTs are a love affair...and a disease at the same time. :)

The PL-41 will put my Pioneer turntable count up to 30 Pioneer tables and both of them will put my total turntable count up to 65.

Plus I have a Fisher console with a Dual 1007 turntable in it and then a Motorola Golden Voice tube console that is probably coolest one I have.
