Musical Fidelity Owners Thread

I recently splashed out and bought one of these Music Fidelity M1Clic Streamers. Something I can not grasp. Why when MF built it. Did they think that people who bought Dark Side of the Moon for example.. Would want to listen to this album in alphabetical track order. Its absolutely insane. I see with These music server apps like Media monkey. You can not even get any help with this.

Bet when they did the sales pitch point the demo at the shows they did not say BTW you can not listen to Sgt paper lonely hearts club band in ascending track order.

I bought this on Flea bay thinking it be stunning bit of kit. But just that aspect of it destroys any good points it has. What do you think?

Unless you know differently of course.

Have you read this yet? Looks like you can use an iPad/iPhone to control your music making it much easier than using the unit’s interface.

I'm no help with the MF M1Clic...but, with Media Monkey and the MM Remote Server installed on my PC, and the MMRemote app installed on my Android phone, I've had no issues listening to albums in any order I would like, including ascending. I was using that method to play FLAC files via USB to my dac (in exclusive mode), using the phone as my interface. When selecting an album in the Media Monkey library, it's automatically in ascending order, not alphabetical. Too bad you had issues, as that's a great way to listen to music without using a mouse and keyboard.

I just got a PS Audio Perfectwave MKII with the Bridge II streaming card expansion, and I actually use the MM Remote Server to link my library to the dac with my phone, using the mconnect Player app as my interface. It works perfectly and took about 5 mins to setup.

I'd look into the link Audofreak71 posted above, looks helpful. Hopefully you get to enjoy it the way you intended to when you bought it.

PS. afterthought I'm running an iMac can I use iTunes as a media player. would it find my WDCloud

found the answer NO

How does iTunes work with streaming?
The Rotel radios require a UPnP server to stream music from a computer to the system. Unfortunately iTunes is not a UPnP server so if using a Windows PC, Windows Media Player should be configured to monitor your iTunes music library.

  • Windows Media Player 11
Open Windows Media Player and select Tools>Options from the menu bar. Select the Library Tab, then click the Monitor Folders button. Add the folders you want WMP to monitor, including your iTunes Music folder. This will keep WMP in sync with changes in your iTunes library automatically.

You will also need to set up WMP to share your media with the RDG/RCX unit. Go to Library tab>Media Sharing and Allow the Rotel Gateway. See the Owner's Manual for more information.

  • Windows Media Player 12
Open Windows Media Player and select Organize>Manage Libraries>Music from the menu bar. From the Library Locations window select Add to add the folders you want WMP to monitor, including your iTunes Music folder. This will keep WMP in sync with changes in your iTunes library automatically.

You will also need to set up WMP to share your media with the RDG/RCX unit. Go to Stream>More streaming options... and Allow the Rotel Gateway. See the Owner's Manual for more information.
If using a Mac, you will need a UPnP program such as EyeConnect to use the Mac as a UPnP server with the Rotel system. Other UPnP servers may work but have not been tested.

I followed the instructions that missed out a couple of things but got there and I take back my initial comments. WMP streams albums in order and impeccably :)

I was having this problem with MM and was not sure what happened. Turned out to be a very easy fix. Hoping this will work for you

If you see in the picture the "Title" area is highlighted (next to the cursor). You'll also notice that the songs are in AO.

Notice in this picture how the "Album" tab is highlighted and the songs are in correct order as on the album.

This solved any issues I was having with albums playing alphabetically rather than in album order. Hope it works for you as well.

P3040001.JPG wmp Was a bad idea It takes far to long to load. What I did in the end. Was plugged took the optical cable from my Bluesound node to my MF Clic used the Bluesound App. But it seems Sorry if this sounds a continuous moan But my Bluesound Node can not Stream very large Flac files. read their help pages and it seems a lot of people have pointed this out and having similar issues. I have brilliant Broadband a good router. But the Drop out time everyday 3 - 4 times a day

I am pleased with the M1 clic so far. a good buy as a Dac. I have my Mini Disc running through it View attachment 1776267

Hey hey, added another MF piece.

A couple days ago I picked up an A3cr amplifier from local CL. Got it for $75 because it was blowing fuses and blowing up speakers!

When I picked it up it was obvious someone had been poking around. It had grossly inappropriate fuses in it. The unit was filthy and it was obvious that it had been left outside or in a barn. I could also spot evidence of liquid at some point.

The first thing I did was completely disassemble and scrub the chassis. Had to remove some rust from the bottom half and repainted the top. Some bad solder work was corrected at the RCA's. Once I got it all back together I tested it out with the correct fuses. No fuses blew, but I quickly discovered it was putting out +50 DC (that's VOLTS, not mV) on the right channel. Left channel worked fine. Located one bad SAP15py. Ordered a new one for $12 (luckily it doesn't appear to be a counterfeit). The part came today and I swapped it in and she fired right up on the bad channel. I verified there was no major DC on the speaker taps and set the bias on both channels and let her run on the test bench for a couple hours.

After it was nice and run in I checked the DC offset and got 14.3mV on the left, and 6.3mV on the right.

One thing I get really annoyed with MF is their use of really cheap caps so I dug around and found some to swap in and replaced the following:
  • C3, 13 are 10uf/50 NP TEAPO, I swapped in 10uf/100 films (this is the input coupling cap)
  • C5, 15 are 100uf/16 NP TEAPO, I replaced with Nichicon ES Muses
  • C19, 119 are 220uf/10 TLEC, I replaced with 220/16 Nichicon VR series
  • C9, 19 are 1uf/50 TLEC, I replaced with 1uf/100 films
After replacing the caps I re-set the bias setting and measured 2.4mV DC offset on the left channel, and 0.8mV on the right. 1st time I've ever gotten so much better DC offset from just a cap replacement!

Still need to order some 100uf/63v caps for C10, 110, 11, 111. Also going to replace all 8 main filter caps (6800uf/63) with Kemet's and small bypass caps like I did on my A3cr preamp that I detailed earlier.

Oh, and also replaced the short in and out wires with some nice teflon coated silver wire for the input and good quality OFC speaker wire of a much greater gauge!

Hi Folks, first time here and was just looking for some advice about some MF gear that I seen for sale 2nd hand.
It consists of: x-DAC V3, Buffer x-10v3, psu v3 and xray v3. All under 1000 euros and looks in good shape. Not too sure if cables are included.
Any thoughts about longevity sound etc appreciated.
Initially was looking for a DAC but came across the above.
Probably hook it up to an old Mission Cyrus 2 with the PSX and Opera Duetto speakers or use it in another system and feed a set top box through the DAC.

Cheers

Quick question: Does anyone know if you can simultaneously use both RCA and Balanced outputs of an M1 dac?

Just got a new headphone amp with balanced inputs, but I still want to occasionally use the DAC with my single-ended preamp for speaker listening. I know I can just "try it" but will have to move a bunch of gear to get it set up.

I just love my A3.2cr pre, pwr, and CD. Using a Topping D90 MQA DAC and driving Dynaudio Confidence C1 Platinums.

Me too!

I had a chance recently to pick up an A3-24 dac to match. But, after reading the reviews I realized it would be a step backwards from my modded MF M1 dac (pictured).

You'll notice in the attached pic, I removed the Gold pieces and painted them black. I like it much better visually.

Even after re-capping and upgrading my A3cr preamp I still don't like the phono section. Which is so odd because I've liked every other MF phono stage I've heard. I still need to try swapping opamps in the onboard phono stage. I'm using a modded Creek OBH-9 (center) with a linear power supply (cigar box lower shelf) and it works very well with the nuded Denon DL-103 on the turntable.

I like how the face of the A3 looks with the black ring. Nice touch.
If you are looking for a nice op amp try the LME49720HA if you can find them.

Agreed, those LME49720HA are great opamps. Too bad they stopped making them. I have a few of them floating around, but they're all installed in components. IIRC, when I bought them I got an odd number (5 ?) as part of a sample program. I think the odd one I had got installed in one of my tuners as the single output buffer opamp. I might have to go pull it and try it in the MF A3cr. It can only help. I believe the opamp is only used for the MC section. So, I won't get my hopes up that it will solve the lack-luster phono stage issue.

I'm a new member of the MF club ..here's my A5 CD player as i bought it.. plays better and better the more its used ..got 3rd hand from a house clearance firm with dents on the front ..i've given it an external clean up and made contact with JS Audio about servicing / upgrade .. so i'm saving up towards that ... any suggestions / comments appreciated as this is my first MF product ..:)Musical Fidelity A5 CDP dirty1.png

Hey all, finally got around to ordering in the caps to complete my A3cr amp. Just installed them tonight and now currently listening to the amp as they settle in.

I ordered the same Cornell Dubilier (CDE) caps that I used in the PS filter section of the A3cr preamp. Same specs as the original Teapo's, just better quality. I also install 0.1uf film bypass caps on each filter cap (sorry, forgot to take pics of this).

Here's the new vs old filter caps.
20200812_174221.jpg

I ordered in Elna Silmic II's for C10, 110, 11, 111. The Elna's are much bigger than the stock ones even though they are the same spec.

Here's a shot of the top of the board just before closing it back up.
20200812_183750.jpg

Gotta say it's sounding pretty sweet after about 2 hours of run-in. Admittedly there's probably a bit of expectancy bias, especially since I have to rely on aural memory. But, it definitely sounds to me that the bass is more textured and the mids have a more relaxed sound. Background is inky black too.

I can't say that I was actually solving any problems by re-capping the amp. However, I really wanted it to match the work I did on the preamp since they are now a set.

Oh, and also yesterday I found a better rack and moved everything onto it.

Hey all. Just an update. I found an A308CR power amp in like new condition that spent the last 10+ years in the box stored. I swapped out my A3.2cr amp with the A308cr and I am still using the A3.2cr preamp. The results have been fantastic! 168EF7F5-E952-424B-AF79-50D7875FA42D.jpeg C07DDD52-F350-4FDF-BB03-F76476CD0647.jpeg E6602FAB-7EDF-4625-8E84-5EE857A807EB.jpeg A8873150-C3F7-46E0-A0E5-4D789F26968F.jpeg E07F9163-57B6-4C91-A044-45209CA205FE.jpeg
